I am considering a cat-back and my major concern is longevity, I want it to last. Figure stainless will be the way to go but which one? Anyone want to share their experiences?

I run the Stainless Walker Exhaust .

    The liquid Brine destroys anything

I replace the complete system after 3 winters .

I have the 2 Cats and the rest here to install End of April if the Blizzards are done

I think this is the third one

Any reputable aftermarket company will be good. Flow master, magnaflow, Gibson exc. YouTube videos for how they sound. Stainless is the way to go but I'd stay away from walker/bosal there crap unless you want to be like above and replace it all the time.

I do NOT want to replace it all the time, that's why I'm asking for real world experiences here. I live the Northeast where they salt the roads in winter. I am not so concerned with sound as I am durability, fit and value.

I installed a Magnaflow cat back on my 04 and the fitment is just "ok." It's really tight next to the frame crossmember and rear mudflap bracket but I had yet to see any witness marks that the've hit after one winter of use, but it's tight like a .25 to .50 inch tight.

Can't beat original Toyota exhaust systems for lasting the wife's 02 Rave 4 with 225,000 mi. the only fix was the flange at the muffler welded in a 3' pc of pipe good as new . My 87 and 97 trucks all lasted 14 -15 yrs except the muffler, the rest of the system held . Pa is nasty with road salt. a new Toyota system should last 12-13 yrs 'till you need to replace just the muffler from my experience. ~~OBT~~

Another thing to look at is how much your driving in the winter slop!!

I am out there most days in the slop driving as much as 200 miles a day.

This is a work truck and gets used .

I like my Walker Exhaust even needing to change it when I do for preventive maintenance so I don`t need to have the truck down when I need it the most.

It is easy and cheap to find about two hours to swap every thing around.

One thing that helps is when you wash your truck in the winter pay more attention to the underside that the top> I always power washed the under side at the car wash during the salty months and my old 97 never has frame problems~~OBT~~

I purchased a Magnaflow system in July 2010. I live in upstate New York, and they salt the devil out of the roads all winter long, sometimes just as a precaution. Additionally, most of my driving is short trips, so the system never gets fully heated up and dried out. The system lasted for six years, before it failed. Because it was purchased online, I had to return it to Magnaflow for them to inspect. (If I had bought from a parts supplier, they could have inspected) Took a few weeks to get the new one, albeit at no cost. Hope I can get another six years out of this one. Although stainless steel, it will "rust" "oxidize" "corrode" whatever you want to call it. Where it showed up was at the joints. Each time it failed, it would sheer off at the joint, as cleanly as if it had been cut. I was able pull the section from the inside, and slip the pipes back together, until the pipe was too short to slip together again. The muffler was just as good as the day I put it on.

I consider it well worth the investment. Previously, I was going through a system every two years. As a precaution this time, I coated the joints and adjacent pipe with antisieze compound.

I just went with a flowmaster super 40 "SS" today and a turndown at the rear axle. I ran a 40 series "aluminized" for about 11 years and it just now got a rust hole, but I don't live in an area where we salt the roads. I like the sound of the super 40, it has less cab drone than the regular 40 did.

I will replace mine with BORLA cat back when the time comes. Borla invented the concept of "cat-back", and I've owned them on many of my other rides in the past.
