Hey there, hoping to get some input…recently converted to Castrol Edge High Mileage full synthetic oil for my 2010 Tacoma.
I’ve always used the OEM oil filter with oil changes and am wondering if I can keep using that filter with the high mileage oil?
I’ve read where some people are saying Castrol recommends the Bosch filter…any thoughts?

To be fair, any quality filter is fine. Napa Gold man myself...

Curious why you think the Edge High Mileage is better than whatever you were using........

Just from the research I have done…I have 200,000 km now and thought my truck would be a good candidate for a high mileage oil.

I've never bothered with high mileage oil, I just use full synthetic and am at 220K miles without issue. I use napa proselect filters in both high mileage vehicles I have.
I assume the high mileage oil has some stop leak to swell gaskets slightly as a preventive measure, thats just a guess though.

Yes you’re correct..it does have leak reducing capabilities as well as reducing phosphorus levels to help prevent catalytic converter failure. The Castrol Edge is rated fairly well.

Seems the only way that would be useful is if you are burning a fair amount of oil between changes. Because oil shouldn't be part of the exhaust stream.

I just use Frame ultra synthetic filter. Only used the OEM filter when I still had warranty on my truck.

There was a gentleman on here that did a whole thing on oil filters and believe it or not the OEM Toyota filter had more layers of filtering than all the other high priced ones

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Changing oils on a well performing vehicle with no oil related problems won’t do a damn thing.

I used Castrol, then Castrol HiMileage, then Castrol Synthetic on my 28 year old Toyota pickup. Never a problem. OEM filter.
I was told Castrol HiMileage was a mix of regular and synthetic oil. Back in the day, Castrol sponsored our drag racing team. No failures there either.

I just moved to the Castrol High Mileage from Mobile 1, because Walmart didn't have any Mobile 1 on the shelf, empty. When I bought my Taco with 120K on it the original owner mentioned he had always used Dino oil. The high mileage with the additives seemed the way to convert to synthetic.

Best thing to do is just buy like 5 or 10 OEM filters at a time online and you get them for like $5-$6 each :)

My 2005 has had Castrol Oil in it since I took it home. I have only used OEM Oil Filters. I did change to the Synthetic Blend High Mileage Castrol 5w/30 after I reached 100,000 miles. The Tacoma is just shy of 250,000 miles. I don't know if the High Mileage makes a difference or not but my Motor and Mileage are still going.
