I was a die hard Castrol guy in the 90's, then switched to Mobil1, then switched to Pennz Plat Ultra a couple years ago. It took a combo of reading test results and then finding it on sale to take a chance on it, but a bought a few jugs of the Castrol "Extended Performance" 5W30. Every vehicle I own, gets new oil and filter every 3,000 miles. So I disregard any "extended" claims

My first reaction to it was that it was waaaaay thicker than Mobil1 and a little thicker than Pennz Plat Ultra. But, what intrigued me was when I went to take off my gloves. This oil is "slick". I mean, hard to use one gloved hand to grip the other gloved hand to pull it off.

So, that pretty much sold me on taking a chance on it. I drained the Pennz Plat Ultra out of my J-VIN 1GR-FE today and replaced it with the Castrol and put in an OEM Toyota oil filter.

With only 60 miles on the clock, the engine is running quietier than any 1GR-FE I have ever heard!

Anyone have any experience using this oil?

You do realize that with modern (especially synthetic) oils, there is absolutely no need to change your oil every 3,000 miles. In fact if you do, you're throwing your money away. From a wear standpoint, if you want to change every 3,000 miles, you can go with conventional oil and have no worries.

I purchased well over 100 quarts of the stuff several years back when Autozone was closing it out for around a buck a quart, a buddy of mine that owns a car lot texted me about it while I was 250 miles from home on a business trip, I stopped at every store on the way home. I'm down to 8 quarts left, run it for ~ 5k miles between changes in several different cars, no issues.

It used to be gold jug FST (Fluid Strength Titanium) that was not available in the US
and could only be bought in places like Europe, Australia, etc.
    for a high price

so I'm not sure if recently they started bringing it over
or if it's a lower level tier that claims to have part of the technology

It used to be gold bottle = FST, and black bottle Castrol is just regular Castrol oil (that I have used).

OP, 3k mi OCI is for dino oil, not synthetic.
This FST probably claims to have a high mileage OCI because they don't have a choice. If OEM's have spec'd it for their cars, it has to last a while. Because German car companies using oil like this have switched over to longer OCI's such as 10k miles.
As in literally when you reset the service reminder in the car, it's programmed to go off every 10k miles.

Lately I've used M1 5w30 because it's cheap. The rebate on Mobil's website brings it down to about $12 for a 5L jug.
Meanwhile every other oil is usually $24 or more per jug.
I'd be happy to use some kind of Motul too, but it's hard to justify spending what they ask for 1 jug ($44)

I strictly use Castrol. IMO they are better than all the other over the shelf brands. That being said as long as you use an oil that meets or exceeds the standards of your engine/manufacturer stated then you are good. Hell even the cheapos theses days like Amazon oil and supertech and pretty impressive. A lot of the oils on the shelf are made at the same refineries.

i know this, but it cant hurt and extra cost is minimal. Plus fuel injectors 5 and 6 on 1GR-FE's have a habbit of starting to leak. thinning the oil. so extended oil changes, no matter what oil are out of the question on 1GR-FE.

an oil chang cost $5 for oem filter and $20-$25 in oil. lets say i do 2 extra a year. max $60 a year.

but back on point, this oil has been pretty amazing so far.

I don't care that you are wasting your money, but I hope you are at least recycling all of that perfectly good oil.
