Just curious does anyone else use this oil? I am thinking about using oem filters along with this oil from now, I wonder if oem oil filters will have any benefits on my truck.

I do not use Castrol but let me just give you the spiel others may give you. Mobil 1 FS 5w-30 and Toyota filters are great. If you have the money and want the best in the business, Amsoil FS 5w-30 and Toyota filter, Period. If you prefer Castrol, no one will judge you. It's your truck and you do as you please, I'm just giving you my 2 cents since you asked

I do have the 4.0 1GR. I believe it is somewhere in between 5.4 and 5.6 quarts if I'm correct. Don't quote me though, I know it's below 6 quarts. The reason I usually like to stick with Mobil 1 is because for $37, I get a box of 6 quarts FS at Costco. I could buy Toyota filters in bulk but I usually just buy 1 at a time right from my dealer.

Any synthetic oil will be good along with toyota filters. If you extend your drain intervals get a oil analysis done to be sure it can handle it.

Have not used Castrol synthetic, but the regular Castroll since 1979, exclusively.....hundreds of thousands miles, never had an oil problem. It was used for racing engins...John Force, and daughter use it in their dragsters. Would be my choice if I switched to synthetic.

Just curious about synthetic oil. It's my understanding that we are to "only" use conventional oil as I don't believe Toyota recommends it for the Gen 2. Or at least that is my understanding for my 2015 prerunner.

No. The only reason Toyota requires synthetic for the 3rd gen is because it calls for 0w-20, and it's mostly so they can reach the fuel economy standards (0w-20 is only available in synthetic).

It's perfectly fine to use synthetic 5w-30 in the 2nd gen.

Castrol is good stuff. Many people claim that their engines run noticeably quieter on it versus any other motor oil.

Castrol Edge (TWS) 10w-60 is the OEM Fill for my 2011 BMW M3. This stuff is much better than most think. When I changed out my Rod Bearings in my S65 V8 that is in my M3 they where surprisingly in good shape. I was very skeptical of this oil as I'm an Amsoil guy and run it in my Taco religiously with an Amsoil filter. I say go for it if it's a good deal and your gut feeling is a good one. Mobil is always a good choice also. I prefer Amsoil in my Toyota's.
