I'm getting all the tools, parts and related stuff gathered to replace the U-joints and Carrier Bearing on my '06 Access Cab.

The part I'm having trouble locating is the nut on the Center Yoke at the carrier bearing.

    What size socket fits?
Will a Nylock nut be a good replacement for the staked nut?
What is the thread on the spud?

I'll be doing this work at my Father-In-Law's farm. He has a shop large enough to handle the big farm equipment along with presses and jacks and heat and space....... Although, I may have to dig out a space to work. I can't tie up the shop for long, due to maintenance and repairs being done to the farm equipment.

Any help or guidance on the nut?

    Thanks guys.

I'm going to stop at the Toyota store to get the nut.

Reusing staked nuts seems like poking the devil with his pitchfork.

<edit> Stopped at Toyota. Ordered the nut. Its a whole $1.47. Parts dept had nada details on the hex or thread. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.
    <end edit>

[edit] A little follow up. The nut has a 24 mm hex. The thread is 16 mm. Wasn't able to determine the pitch, but I know it is NOT 2.00 mm. The pitch is finer.

    To button up the endeavor.....

Yesterday was spent at Father-In-Law's shop. Pull front prop shaft, replaced both U-joints. Pull rear prop shaft, replaced Carrier Bearing and U-joints.

Pre-packed the cups with grease, then used a grease gun to fill the cross piece.

The U-joints were in reasonable condition, the Carrier Bearing fell apart when the yoke was removed. I believe this was the source of the shudder.

The low speed shudder is gone.

The most difficult step was breaking the nuts loose on the flanges. Not so much rust, just insane torque levels on the fasteners.

Glad you got it all sorted out. For future reference a 14mm swivel socket and a good impact will make quick work of the flange nuts. Those things are set ridiculously tight

    Thanks.....Used all that.

In truth, the torque spec is 65 ft-lbs. Not a tremendous torque level.

Thanks for updating the size of the 24mm carrier bearing flange nut. My truck is 70 miles away and I got a ride home and I’m making a tool list to go fix the carrier bearing. Believe it or not some people use the search function and these little tid bits of info can make or break a rescue mission.
