I have the exact same issue- I found that it is critical to have the phone unlocked before connecting to USB. As long I make sure it is unlocked my issues have disappeared

I listen to Pandora and I find that if I have my wireless on my phone turned off it connects and stays connected. If I stop somewhere, when I get back into the truck it sometimes doesn’t reconnect right away. Opening the Pandora app on the phone screen and hitting the pause/play button once or twice gets it going again if it’s slow to reconnect.

So far so good with the official Apple cord, the issue seems resolved!

I am glad it worked out for you!
Whenever I see the official apple cable on clearance section at Target or Staples I stick up.

I've had the same problem with my 21DCSB with JBL premium, regardless of input type (Apple cord, unlicensed cord, and wireless adapter)

yeah, the Apple cable is better than some others, for certain issues, but i've still had the stuttering recur with it.

I just turned off a bunch of the entune features like auto update and live traffic nav but switching the cord seemed to fix my issues.

turn off a bunch of shit in the headunit - whatever circa 2000 CPU they put in there can't handle the load from all the options being on without skipping the audio

that's more of a work-around than a fix - having to turn off a bunch of normal functions in to allow others to work. unfortunately, it still hasn't completely eliminated the stuttering for me. i've tried a brand new Apple factory cable, turned off everything i can turn off in the head unit, closed every background app on the phone, let head unit initialize before plugging in while patting my head and rubbing my stomach... while i'm having issues less frequently, when it does decide to stutter there doesn't seem to be anything i can do but wait. or, pull over, stop the car and restart. that did the trick the last time, but again - not really a fix.

100% agree, but I don't anticipate a fix happening. Even if we could replicate the issue reliably at a dealer, JBL is going to point at Apple, Apple is going to point at JBL, and nothing is going to happen. I'm pretty cynical.

well, yeah. i don't think anyone posting here is holding their breath for Toyota to issue a TSB in response. but we're all still exchanging info in hopes of working it out. as we have yet to find a universal work-around, a future firmware update might (inadvertently?) help. who knows?

Which music app do you get stuttering from?

Apple's music app, as well as podcast apps. Waze too, and it's as if it's drunk more than a stutter - sentences just don't make sense.

I believe Wifi was a critical one I had to turn off.

Super annoying that this is happening to you. If it's still occurring after turning off as much as you can (including wifi) I'd take it to the dealer and have them swap the head unit.

Ahh I'm mainly using spotify for my music. It may be those apps are slightly "heavier" in their resource requirements and cause stutter where spotify does not.

IMO, this is caused by a super weak CPU in the headunit, that's why lowering the load from other apps helps so much in fixing this problem.

I use Youtube Music and Google maps.

I will start using Apple Music and Waze to see if I can recreate the stuttering on mine. You have JBL though and I don’t.
