Yet when you're using the vehicle selection tool on the main page, the 3rd Gen Taco is there. If their website is this shoddy, makes me wonder what their app and dongle are like.

This morning I received a response to my email asking if their app can be used for customization functions on gen 3 Tacoma’s. Here’s their reply.

    Dear Eric,

Thanks for your interest in Carista and I apologize for the late reply! Indeed, your car is one of the supported models. We need to update our website. :) Let me know if you have more questions.

I have the Carista BT dongle and OBD Fusion with Toyota PID pack (extra one time $10 in-app purchase). It's great for monitoring numerous PIDs on the road, but the App is a bit laggy for logging. I used cracked techstream for that.

Anyway, the first dongle I received was intermittent and kept dropping BT connectivity a minute or two after pairing and opening OBD Fusion.
Returned and ordered another dongle, it's been solid ever since.

Would this allow me to reset the passenger seat belt light on the dash? I unplugged it during a radio install and for got to hook it up when I turned the car on, so it faulted the light to come on.

I know it will turn off the seat belt chime, but not sure about the light in the dash. I'll try later and see if it gives that option....don't remember seeing it though.

    Haha...not doing it...can't make me!
I tried both of these programs, both are nice. Techstream is hands down the best. You can run live data, add/remove keys, bleed brakes (ABS), monitor short/long term fuel trims for diagnosing and data log. However you do need a laptop with windows, and getting the 64 bit machine to run with Techstream can be tricky if your not tech savvy. OBD Innovations was the company I was going to use recently, they were out of stock for a bit due to getting the wrong batch of Mini-VCI's delivered, I ended up getting a Mini-VCI off Ebay and it has worked great.

Traveling to other countries like Mexico and further South, relaying on a dealer or a locksmith could get a little difficult. I keep pre-cut keys in a safe outside the truck that have not been programmed, so in the event I lock myself out, I can still get into the truck. If I lose my primary key, I can still program my spares into the ECU with Techstream and be back on the road.

    all you need is:

    Mini VCI
Copy of Techstream ( I Prefer Ver. 10.18.18)
    Windows Macine (I use Mac/Parallels)

Picked up the Carista dongle this weekend and everything works A-OK on my 18 OR DCSB. Whether or not it's worth $40 a year is debatable, since IMO you'll set the customizations you want once or twice and that will be it. There are plenty of free tools out there for reading and reseting codes via OBDC.

Pardon my ignorance, but with the free "advanced trial" can't you just change everything you want in the vehicle and be done? I shouldn't have to renew the advanced features again correct?

Correct. You could change what you want during the free trial and be done if that's what you want to do. If for some reason you disconnect your battery, or the dealer resets, I'm not sure if the settings would stay or not.

I actually just got Carista myself but apparently the 2017 Tacoma doesn't support customizations or advanced features. All I get is a basic diagnostic...:(
Anyone know of some other tools that offer customizations through the OBDII port?

Are you sure you set up your account for the one month free trial? I can't imagine it would work on the '18 and not the '17.

Just a note, on the Android said at least, you have to cancel from the G Play Store. There is no cancel option from within the app, and it starts at the exact time that you started the trial. So to potentially save $40, plan on canceling in 6days instead of the full seven.

That's weird. My seatbelts never ding anymore after Carista. I do want to get TS running someday to get rid of the key ding.

    Nope. Neither will Techstream.

Haha what?? I did the same thing and this is what they told me. I have a 2017 Tacoma OR... A/T

Thank you for contacting us. The reason we've stated that we do not support Tacoma officially is because we don't have that much experience with it. That's why we can't guarantee support for it - some versions don't use the communication protocol Toyota typically uses on its cars. They use a different one, which is incompatible with ELM327 devices. You could ask a friend or someone who owns an OBD2 adapter and try connecting Carista to it. That's the best way we could know whether your car should be supported or not.
