Do these have to be washed before install? Was wondering if the dye can bleed into seats if wet.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
That is exactly what they recommend you do. I did that to mine -- they get softer and fit nicer, and easier to handle going on. I really like mine, and would buy again.

There are airbags in the side of the seats, correct? Do the Carhartts have an area to let them deploy?

I love mine! I didn’t wash them. I don’t know about the airbag access either.

Yes. There is a slot in the side of them that supposedly will let the airbags deploy.

I didn’t wash mine either but the only complaint I have is those little rolls just keep pulling out from between the seat back and seat bottom...other than that, They are great

Where the heck is that strap on seat bottom supposed to go? Am I supposed to thread it through between seat cushion and plastic base and then connect it under the seat? Or, is it supposed to go around outside of entire seat (over outside of plastic base) and under?

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Wash them before you install. First soak in salt water. Yes feed the strap between the seat and plastic flap. You can disconnect the flap at the bottom and that makes it easier.

I just washed mine for the first time, fell asleep inside during a downpour and I had all my windows down, and after about 18 months no blead that I can see. I didn’t wash them first either, and did put gray on gray too though.

when I pay what I did for the seat covers I tend to follow the manufacturer's recommendation.

I did mine through the seat back and the plastic, it was a PIA to get them on...

Yeah I ended up threading mine between the plastic and cushion as well, and likewise, it was a pain in the ass. I honestly don’t think the straps do much from what I can tell, but I’ve only had them on a few days so far so we’ll see.

Very nice covers. I tried a few other canvas covers with not so great results. Should have gone with Carhartt in the first place. I believe they are made by Coverking, which ironically, is one of the covers I tried prior to and didn't like at all. Fitment was poor and didn't conform well to the seats.

I keep pulling my seat covers back, they protect good but do not stay in place well...good luck with yours..
