Hey guys my question is if you go to a car wash and they’re spraying ceramic coating on it, you know every week and you get maybe two or three washes is it bad to have your car constantly cleaned with ceramic coating and etc. and does it pile/gunk up on your paint? I’m just curious if the better car wash is worth it or I should just go with the cheaper simple wash.

    Agreed.

Makes no difference. Pick the one you think is the best value.
I usually get the cheapest one that has the under carriage spray.
Then hand dry and use the "window cleaner" to get the spots the wash missed.

my biggest issue with car washes is the hard water spots.. the car wash works great but as soon as everything dried, i see hard water spots and even though i am drying off with a towel now, the old hard water spots still remain.

A new washville opened up near me so i got this 20-20-20 deal which has everything for $20 a month for 3 months, as long as they have the deal, i guess i will keep them. Being in massachusetts, got to wash that salt off as soon as i can

Carnauba wax twice a year is a very good recipe; nothing 'pops' like carnauba wax!

Go regular since its the cheapest with Undercarriage wash. We have a similar pass for our BMW, and aside from having to deep clean the wheels myself every now and then, it get run through very often and stays pretty darned clean aside from all the fine brush scratches. Those can be corrected in the future though.

Just keep in mind, those bottom blasters may very well be removing any spray treatment you have on your frame. If you don't use a treatment on the frame to prevent rust; I'd damn sure be using a bottom blaster wash,,, very often.

bringing your truck thru a full service car wash will scratch the crap out of it. laser wash or hand wash if you can.

Why do I feel like you’re in Colorado?

I’d get the cheapest option that has an undercarriage spray.

And the car wash brushes are completely covered with rocks and gravel from the cars that came before you so don’t expect your truck to look great after a season or two.

And, I can totally sympathize with not wanting to hand wash your truck when it’s single digits but it’s covered in salt.

Had to google Laser wash, is it basically touchless but a bit more techy?

They have one of these in Napa, it’s pretty decent, but it won’t get your car bad winter clean.

I'll share my .02 on car washes and Toyota paint. I have never with any car I have owned using the higher end car washes, meaning not the $4 wash you get with a fill up. The higher end car washes use cloth brushes and are designed with your cars finish in mind. My 18 has been through one multiple times as my other cars. What I have noticed is that my clear coat on the roof is nearly gone. Part of it I think has to do with the spray from the washer fluid, and not helped with the fact I live in Florida. I'm not really thrilled with fact that it looks faded, but it seems that Toyota paint hasn't been the greatest quality lately. I think ceramic is really the way to go with the current Toyota quality and especially if you plan on going through a car wash on a regular basis.

Curious how often you wash, decontaminate, clay, polish, apply sealant and wax on your truck for the paint to be fading. Granted the FL sun UV rays certainly takes its toll, esp on horizontal surfaces, I'm inclined to believe a little preventative car would delay the progression...

I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to automated car washes - I just know it's gonna rip off a rearview mirror or scratch the hell out
of the side panels along the way.

Well the carwash waxes it every time :rofl: When it was new I had an unlimited plan so I was probably between one to two times a month. I would usually follow that up with a spray wax. I think a lot of my problem came from Windshield washer fluid. The reason I say that is that it seems the fading is in line with where it sprays. I think if I had put the ceramic coating it would have offered a little better protection.

Of course that is a guess, but I went ceramic on my wife's BMW and it still has a mirror finish.

I wash my Taco a lot more in the winter than I do in the summer. Gotta get that nasty salt off.

Touchless with underspray is the only way to go.... (I'm not worried about it removing my rustproofing)

As far as all the extra gimmicky soaps, I can take it or leave it. If it's on sale, I'll get it. Right now Petro-Canada has 7 Supreme car washes for $60, plus 2 more if you sign up online. That's 9 car washes for $60, that is usually $19 each.

We only have 1 touch less auto place near me. Usually the lines are 15 to 20 mins so I end up just self spraying it. Costs 3 dollars and 5 mins of my time. But then I know the undercarriage is clean. I try to do it once after every snow storm/salt.

Last time I signed up for a car wash subscription I had to start disputing the charge on my cc before they gave me the "right" number to call for their cancel anytime policy.
