Just got out of the touchless car wash and looks likes the high pressure spray chipped and blew a big chunk of paint off of the fender flares. Does anyone know if this can be touched up with a special paint?

Wow thats weird. Has this fender been repainted in the past? Bad paint prep maybe?

Tacoma paint sucks. I accidentally keyed my driver's door just by dropping my keys.

Pull the fender off and have it painted. Probably not a big deal. Did you notify the car wash? They might pay for it.

It’s silver. I notified the car wash and their manager is going to get back to me. It’s also doing it a little bit in the front but only on the passenger side. Driver side is good. I think it had a small chip and the nozzles got it good. Also thinking it may have been one of the guys in the beginning got too close with the hand held nozzle. The guy was really nice I talked to. We’ll see what happens.

Unfortunately silver is the worst color for paint repair. Typically it requires blending so while they may be able to repaint the fender flare it may have to be blended in with the bedside to match which is more money and labor.
It has to do with the fact that silver is virtually no pigment and all metallic flakes.

I would get a quote from a good body shop and try to work with the car wash to see if they’ll foot the bill.

Mostly true, but they're not going to blend on the flare. They're just going to paint the whole thing. In this case though, the black "gasket" that fits between the flare and the bed side / fender distracts the eye because it breaks up the surface one is looking at into two separate surfaces. The benefit is that if the re-painted flare is even close on color match, it'll look just fine in most cases. If that were a door, hood or other major panel though ...

Yeah I’m fine with just having it painted the stock color. Nothing too fancy. I have to replace the mud flap as well. I have replacement ones for all 4 I just have to get around to looking for the correct pins/hardware online.

This is good news. Plus I think if they paint correct (polish) the rest of the truck it may not show the new paint shades off from the old.

The owner reached out to me and asked me to send him a picture and my account number (I have a monthly plan) and he’s going to check the cameras to see what happened

If you pulled that flare off and took it to a body shop I believe it would be less expensive and time consuming than taking the whole vehicle in. You could also try fixing it yourself. I have seen websites before that will mix up a stock color and put it in a spray can with a 2nd can of clear.

That thought had crossed my mind. If the car wash tells me to pound sand I’ll probably go that route. I’ll just wait till spring when it warms up a bit and replace all of the mud flaps at the same time.

That flare and the bedside will never match 100% just like a bumper cover on a car.

Never go thru a car wash they are terrible

When it’s winter in New England it’s really hard to wash yourself. At home anyways. And you gotta get the salt off or it eats away at the rig. This is the only problem I’ve ever had so I’m not too worried. The place I went to in Maine wasn’t touchless which I liked

Had to replace the fender flare on my wife’s 2015. The fender flare is textured and if sanded and repainted it would not match the others. Someone ran into her truck while it was parked in our driveway.

Full metal jacket brand spray on bedliner.

I wonder if ur mudflaps being on however long they were, started degrading the paint on the fender flares up and left a small section of paint compromised?
