I am usually onboard with you. A quick google search will disagree with dish detergent for car wash. I used to use it as well. I use Mcguires (or however u spell it) in a foam cannon. No reason not to use something not designed to be used for its intended application. Plus I don’t see any ducks covered in oil on my truck. Haaaa :bucket:

I don't think any soap will strip a wax, if it does the wax wasn't worth using in the first place. The problem with dish soap is it doesn't rinse off very well so it gives the impression that it has removed a wax or sealant. If the wax/sealant was worth a damn you'd probably find after doing this that you could cut this soap film off with an isopropyl solution to reveal the wax is still there.

Dawn (dish soap) doesn’t strip wax. That’s an old wives tale. The surfactants in the soap can and do “mask” water beading, so it looks like the wax is gone. But it’s not.

There’s a thread on Autogeek where they did experiments. And there’s videos. And photos. I think they did a dawn wash and showed no beading afterwards. Then wiped it down with some other cleaner to wash off the dawn residue (maybe alcohol). Then sprayed with water and the beading returned.

For washing, I use chemical guys honeydew snow foam soap applied with a foam cannon on the pressure washer.

I don’t recommend Dawn for the simple fact the lubricity isn’t the same as a dedicated car wash soap.

Probably diluted isopropyl alcohol. I'm curious to know what kind of waxes y'all are using though.

Interesting. So it wears it off like drying with a chammy or using a brush when washing.

I’ll just toss this in here… meguiar’s gold class car wash soap is cheap and very effective. You can get it everywhere. Super slick, enhances gloss. It’s pretty much a perfect soap. Leaves nothing to be desired.

Nope. I am saying when using, your wash mitt, sponge, etc will not glide along the paint as well as with a good car shampoo.

IMO it's one of the best car soaps out there that's readily available in the retail marketplace, but definitley not the best. I used it for a very long time and still have a jug in my garage that I use in my foam cannon for doing non-contact prewashes, but don't let it dry on the paint before rinsing. I'm using Carpro Reset now. It's PH balanced and if it dries on the paint, all you have to do is rewet it and it rinses right off. No spotting.

I'm on my second bottle of GSF now. I think it works well. I've been using the Adam's Car Shampoo for a while, and the biggest difference I've noticed is that GSF mixes better with water. It's not as viscous, but the foam is just as thick. Smells better, too, but that's just my $0.02. Only drawback is that it's more expensive. Probably wouldn't use it if I was detailing professionally, but it's a great soap for weekend warriors who don't mind spending a little more for good products.

I get it. I deal with boats on a very high level and gelcoat is much more susceptible to oxidation. Paint is easy. Wrong soap, stiff brush, aggressive rag...it all takes the wax off. I never considered the lubricity of the soap in that equation, although it's really noticeable when washing. I just worried about micro scratches, not that it was dragging the wax off. It is.

Used to use Mcguire's gold. It's ok. I now use Chemical guys glossworks. Works great, looks great.

I’m looking for a car wash soap that won’t hurt plants, earthworms, trees, etc., because of how the driveway drains.

I considered trying Chemical Guys Mr. Pink Foaming. Which one reviewer said was safe for plants etc.

    But I decided to try
    Optimum CW2006Q Car Wash
Which says it is environmentally safe, easy on your hands, and biodegradable. Sounds good. Hopefully it will also get the Toy clean with a little elbow grease.

Optimum also has this cool product.
Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine - 32 oz. -
Which saves a ton of water. Will be important in the drought. I’m really impressed with Optimum’s product line.

BTW, Duragloss seems to only comes as 902 not 901 on Amazon.
