Somehow my carplay has disconnected and I can't get it to reconnect. Anyone had this happen?

Same with AA. I use a cord, but even that is not reliable. I don't know about car play, but AA does not have a user friendly app on the phone. It's on the phone, but you can't really open it up and tell it to connect to the truck. You just have to wait till the icon appears on the truck screen, then click on it. If it doesn't appear, nothing you can really do to jump start the process.

Do you have your wifi turned off in the truck's system? (I think it should be.)

Check the vehicle Bluetooth settings where you might need to re-enable it for CarPlay or Android Auto. Here or tacoma4g I made a detailed post hoping it would be piled onto as a reference. I've tried different devices, different rev of software etc and same devices with our other CarPlay vehicle and a family member's. There's no doubt same devices are only flakey this way with the current Tacoma firmware.

go into the trucks settings and reset the head unit settings. on your phone open the android auto or carplay app and clear the cache and data. also disconnect/uninstall all bluetooth connections. last thing, if all the above fails, do it again plus uninstall the toyota app if you have it on your phone. try again.

if this does the trick, consider buying an ai box that stays plugged into the carplay port and connects to your phone wireless. it will keep the trucks bt connection to your phone from getting "stuck"

This really needs to be organized and pushed as Toyota needs to update their firmware. Immediate family, extended family, friends and my fleet or rental use show other auto makes and models not having these problems.

If I wanted a kludge I could have bought some used vehicles and not a 2024 model vehicle priced above current plus recent mean and median prices. The Bluetooth should initiate and keep the settings, the vehicle firmware should not require the re-enabling for CarPlay use, and our phones should have the music fidelity and performance of the system using WiFi for that.

In the past week I travelled in other vehicles with associates that had same Apple and Android phones where I did earlier testing. None of them had same problems. My wife's German car, our older Subaru, even the POS 2024 Jeep I had as a rental for 1800 miles earlier in the year that had electronics stupidity including a defroster not working, lots of safety/AEP false positives, and failed in a snow storm kept wireless CarPlay working.

Whenever my AA fails to connect (usually only during a remote start) I click on Bluetooth devices -- "The device I want" -- then click the Use Android Auto toggle and it connects every time.

I can't control Toyota, apple, or android, but did my suggestion work?

the problem i personally think is within the toyota app as it hangs on to the car settings. I believe it causes issues with carplay. by removing Toyota app and connecting my android auto/carplay to an ai box that makes it wireless, I've eliminated my issues.

to me, it makes my head unit a more enjoyable experience anyway.

Just hold the volume button in for a bit and it'll reboot and work.

Resets and re-add works but that's not the point. Toyota needs a firmware update.

I'm pretty sure I know this well from the testing done, and until recently having ultimate responsibility for hundreds of mobile devices to work in a critical and fleet environment. When my staff haven't been able to solve it or need the support to help it came to my lap and not just under my nose.

There's an application and hardware layer underneath the actual Android Auto and CarPlay. The screen shot here is Toyota's, not the mobile platform. Losing the Bluetooth connection or the that connection needing to be re-enabled in this case, is not Apple, not Google, not your handset. I've tested it with multiple phones and different phone OS revisions.

I can understand what you say but I did not buy this pickup for the Bluetooth and/or WiFi junk show those same 5 test handsets do not have with other vehicles. I'm hopeful others will join my efforts to get Toyota aware.

So return it. Or don't. I really don't care. I was simply giving a response to the initial question that was asked.

If you have a rant that needs to be addressed by Toyota, take it to Toyota. I'm not your customer service rep breh. From my own experience I've figured out what works for me and share it in hopes it helps someone else. I don't need a lecture on how bad Toyota increasingly sucks.

I would however suggest easing up a bit, you're going give yourself hemorrhoids or a stroke, and Toyota isn't worth either of those things.

    good luck

I'm not really ranting or upset in as maybe you think. With lot of data points are pointing to the need for a firmware upgrade to be done and executed, that's what should be our aim. Encouraging people to make sure Toyota is aware is best bet for this because I do not think many of the now 100,000+ owners want any complexity.

Your adding a third party device is something I understand but that same fleet and at large scale mobile experience has me really certain it's not for a lot of people.

I hope those with the problem know a simple mention to a service writer might not be enough. I made an explicit call with the right service department leader who did understand what the service writer did not understand.

    Thank you.

Based on time, using the screen to click is the fastest for me. Power cycle takes like 10-15 seconds and clicking is less.

Another option is holding the the push to talk steering wheel button or saying "Hey Toyota" and saying "Bluetooth devices" that will open the settings.
