Car Keys Express are at my local Costco. I just bought a used 2019, key start, that only came with one key. I stopped to get a price and it's $300 to cut and program. Seems like Tom's is a much better option. Has anyone had this done at their local costco? I am wondering if there is any room for negotiation. I can get 2 keys cut at Tom's and rent their programmer for $235. Appreciate any input on CKE, Tom's or any better option. I do have a Carista I bought for my 4Runner and have not yet used my free month. Does anyone know if I can program keys with it?

Checked Carista website. Doesn't look like you can do keys.

Here is Video to program with Tom's

If you're confident to program go with Tom's to save $.

If you're not sure go to Costco

Did you get a price at dealer?

I had a RAV4 push button key from dealer for $300. I thought it would be more.
Maybe your key would be less than this from dealer.

If dealer is close in price to CKE I'd go to dealer.

Thanks TacomaGuy, I guess I just assumed the dealer would cost a fortune, as I have read other have paid around $600. No reason not to call and ask however! Seems like people have good success with Tom's.

It could have been a little over $300, maybe $325.

Around $200 for key $125 to program. I was surprised.

This was for keyless entry/pushbutton start.

    your key might be less.

I'm a little paranoid about someone programming through OBD2.

I did read about a locksmith causing a no start having to go to dealer to fix.

What if the guy at Costco does something wrong?

If prices are comprable I'd go to dealer.

Tom’s is pretty great. Would definitely do it again. There are a few threads on here about people’s experiences

I just found out that Batteries plus also sells keys, cuts and programs them. Their price is a little under $250. I guess I'm skipping Costco :)

I had the same Toyota dealer response about costing around $300 for a chipped key. When I was told that I needed to make an appointment and wait time would be about two hours I decided to go with Tomskeys. Key and programmer arrived today. The programming process took all of about 4 minutes, literally. It was astonishingly easy. However, watching the video and reading the instructions took about ten minutes. Certainly better than sitting at the dealership for two hours.
