So I own a 2013 Tacoma prerunner and I’m currently upgrading my stereo receiver from my factory to a nice alpine unit. I bought all the harnesses I need for the swap and I wanted to make sure they all fit to my truck so I popped the receiver off to check then put it back together because I was planing on changing it at a later date. Before removing the receiver I unplugged the negative side from the car battery as to not blow any fuses. When I put everything back together and hooked up the negative to the battery the car alarm turned on and I could not for the life of me get it to shut off. I have a fob and the alarm button doesn’t turn it off and locking the car unlocking it with the fob doesn’t work. I researched online and got some MIXED methods of ways to reset the alarm. I tried the 5 turn on / 6th turn start the engine method..didn’t work. Tried different combos on the fob recommended…didn’t work. I even unhooked the battery on the positive side as well and waited 30 minutes to see if the system would reset…didn’t work. I don’t want to have to pull the entire dash and start looking for a bad sensor. Also. There is no reset button by the steering wheel column for the alarm, just a red light that blinks while it’s going off. Any thoughts?

This doesn’t sound like it is the OE Alarm System?
Does your key fob have any markings on it?
Maybe this will help lead us in a direction to help you.

That looks like the OE fob.
I’ve had my batter unhooked a bunch of times.
    Never ran into that issue.

On some vehicles, you can use the key to lock and unlock the doors to reset the alarm.
I don’t know if it works on the Tacoma? I’ve never had it happen to tey.

It’s weird and very annoying. I tried unlocking and locking with the key to reset the alarm and that did not work either. At my wit’s end here

You might pull the 10A horn fuse, at least it won’t be blowing the whole time you are trying to figure it out.

That is a Karr alarm. It is a dealer installed alarm. A lot of TW members think it's a factory alarm, it is not. All Karr alarms have a valet switch. Different years of Karr alarms had different styles of valet switches. If the alarm's LED is mounted on a little plastic bracket at the bottom of the dash the valet switch could be mounted on the backside of that plastic bracket. Some Karr alarms had LED's that double as the valet switch, lightly push in on the LED and if it moves and is spring loaded then it doubles as a LED and a valet switch. Valet switches are not supposed to be mounted in a location that's easily seen so you'll need to look when you're not seated in the trucks seat. Valet switches have to be accessible from the driver's seat.

As far as operating the valet switch you'll need the trucks ignition key. The steps you'll need to take: reconnect battery (alarm sounds off), ignition key turned to on, push and hold in valet switch, turn ignition key off, let go of valet switch (alarm stops sounding).

The easiest way to accomplish what you want is to turn the ignition key to on, leave it on on while reconnecting the battery.

Oh, popular locations of valet switches are driver's kick panel, underneath/behind fuse box doors, very bottom of the dash with the switch pointing down, inside pockets/cubbyholes, and the bottom of the steering column.

Most KAAR systems have a little thing like this.
(But that really doesn’t look like a KAAR Fob in your pic)
Maybe you just have power locks?
    And a secondary alarm system?

Pretty positive it’s not a Kaar system. Just went out this morning and pulled the horn fuse which did not disable the sound for the alarm system just my car horn so not sure where to go next. Looked for a switch for valet and there is definitely no switch. Here is a pick of my dash and the light.

I don’t know what that red light is?
But it doesn’t look factory. I’m betting you have an aftermarket alarm. You’re going to need to look under the dash.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    Not factory.

Follow the wiring from that light, should lead you to the 'brain'.

Personally I'd ditch the whole shebang.

So I’m making progress. Was able to pull the fuse going to the alarm system and can still start my truck. The idiot who put in this system never installed the valet button so it was sitting all curled up behind everything which is impossible to get to with the dash put together. Going to install the valet button and look up the programming to reset it. Wish me luck.
