    I have a 2019 TRD 4x4 with 45,000mi.

I am having extreme trouble pumping gas. The pump "clicks" every single time. I can play with it and eventually I can get it to SLOWLY fill without clicking. No codes have been thrown that I have seen. Has anyone else had this issue so early on and if so what could be the issue and how should i go about fixing it? TIA.

Did you used to fill it up more after the pump shut itself off automatically?

    @JayBird1993 Check this article out.

" The gas pump nozzle shuts off due to the way it is designed. When the nozzle shuts off as you’re trying to use it, this does not necessarily mean that it is malfunctioning. Actually, it has a mechanism that is supposed to shut off the fuel supply for safety reasons. The fuel shutoff sensor is located on the end of the nozzle near the opening. It is not an electronic sensor, despite its somewhat misleading name. Instead, it is a mechanical device. The shutoff mechanism is a small hole near the tip of the nozzle that is connected to a pipe. Air needs to constantly flow into the pump via this hole or the fuel supply will be cut off."

Edit: there are ways to defeat the mechanical shut off but you need to monitor how much fuel is going into your Taco so you don't overfill, spill gas, and ruin the evaporator canister. Just pull the gas nozzle out of the fill tube a bit so fresh air gets to the nozzle. If you are in CA, in your off hand you will need to pull up on the gas pump vapor sleeve so the pump thinks it is seated to the fill tube.

I had this happen on my STi and it was the evap canister. However, a bad evap canister should throw a code. Might be a place to start.

Have you tried different gas stations and or pumps? Same results?

Some here had a faulty valve causing overfill but not your particular issue. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/overfilled-gas-twice.738756/

Edit: Yes, try EVAP as a suggested place to start. Prior to your issue did you always top off your tank once it clicks?

Happen to be at a Costco? They have a new nozzle you have to click into place before pumping….

If you’re using the same pump, could just be a fast flow rate that’s causing to to fill/shut off. That’s probably why it works when you “slowly fill”.

I have been to several different pumps over the passed two weeks. I just bought the truck from a dealer about a month ago and now this. I have read elsewhere that the cannister could be malfunctioning but as stated before, should be throwing a code if it is but mine is not. I have also read that the purge/vent valve solenoid could be the issue but would also be throwing a code.

NetworkRaptor, if you dont mind me asking do you recall a price for the cannister you replaced yours with? I am having trouble locating one around here to even get a price. I'm in North Louisiana.

I replaced it on my old 2005 STi, not sure what one would cost for our trucks.

Mine does it I just don't jam the filler into the neck all the way, just enough that the gas cap threads of the filler neck catch the spring on the pump tube so as stated above the cut off diaphragm can get air flow.

Still works fine and still automatically shuts off when it's supposed to without being aggrivating while trying to pump.

    None
Idk about costco, as there's none locally here. We have plenty of shell and irving gas pumps along with all the other types. All have worked the same for me. If your taco won't accept the fuel, it seems like a venting issue of sorts.

this has only happened to me once and it was the new gas station by my house. went to the one i normally use by my work and could pump fine. sounds like this is happening at a lot of different pumps for you though.

I think this guy is running into the same issues as you. he hasn't figured out what the problem is, but he will probably post a video about fixing it soon

Before you go spending blind money on parts, take it to a good mechanic who should be able to test the evap system through the ECU/OBD and do a physical inspection.

I have had this problem with at least 2 Tundras ... Always 3 step process to solve: 1. Is the filler neck bent or deformed? 2. Change charcoal cannister 3. Anti Siphon valve ? ... In all cases the A-S value was the culprit - A new fuel tank was required
