    I'm trying to a find a good way to carry a canoe. I have a 2015 double cab long bed with a toolbox in the bed. I am hoping to find/make something similar to a TracRac or ladder rack. If possible, I'd like to avoid moving the toolbox and drilling another set of mounting holes.

    I've been thinking about making one out of wood with simpson strong ties (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Simpson-...Gauge-2x-Rigid-Tie-Connector-RTC22Z/100375080), but I haven't been able to think of a great way to secure it to the truck. My toolbox makes it difficult to use the tie down points near the cab. The wheel wells make it difficult to place the posts near the toolbox. I'm also not crazy about have a narrow rack with a large gap between the bed and the cab. I'm worried that the canoe will tip forward on the rack and smash the top of my cab. Has anyone dealt with these issues?

    I've seen some people use a hitch mounted rack with a roof rack. I've had bad experiences with Yakima hitch mounted bike racks thrashing around violently behind my car. Has anyone had this issue with hitch mounted canoe racks?

    I went with a Prinsu over the cab,
    [IMG]

    Main reasons were;
    -Needed to carry canoe with travel trailer at the same time.
    -Had to carry Prospector with plenty of rocker.
    -Prinsu is wicked the rest of the time.

    Thanks for the advice. I've got an old Grumman with a lot of rocker. Do you know how the prinsu racks fit with the shark fin antenna? I couldn't find any pictures on their website that shows it.

    Do you have any issue where it feels like the canoe wants to rock forward or backward when you brake or accelerate? I've only ever carried a canoe on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The roof racks seem a good bit shorter for the tacomas. Maybe this isn't an issue...

    I'm sure it fits, the last bar might need to move up or back to fit.

    Um nope, My boat is secured before I move.. I should clarify - I've got gunwhale brackets that attach to the Prinsu - they clamp the boat so that it can't move;

    Then cam-straps hold it tight to the rack, and bow/stern straps keep the front and back secure.
    Safe and sound, our boat still weights 60lbs, and catches wind on the highway - there is no fooling around when it's up top.

    I do not have pictures but you could do a headache rack and a hitch receiver post.
