I have been charging my phone for years now using an adapter the plugs into the cigarette lighter that has USB on the other end and then plug a charging cable into that. Recently my phone would light up when plugged in but will not charge. I then plugged a known good charging cable into the direct USB and the same thing happens. I have ruled out the USB adapter and charging cable as being the problem (and the phone as it charges fine in my house setup).

I am now thinking that I may have blown the fuse for the USB / Cigarette lighter.

Does anyone know if 1) They are both on the same circuit and fuse and 2) Which fuse and where is it located ?

Normally I would just figure this out but I have a long ride planned for tomorrow and need to get this fixed tonight.

    Thanks in advance.

    Maybe start here.

Edit:. And the 15 amp beside it labeled p/outlet #1.

Update. I found the annoying under dash fuse block and found the P/Outlet 1 fuse. I then found the fuse block under the hood where the fuse puller and spare fuses were. I removed both the P/Outlet 1 and 2 fuses and tested them as good.

My 2017 does not have a "USB" fuse as shown in the picture above.

    Any other suggestions ?

I think they're right though it's a little odd the phone lights up when you plug it in?

Mine acted that way for a while. Finally I figured out the charging port on the phone was full of lint from carrying the phone in my pocket! A toothpick worked like a charm to clean it out. No more flaky charging issues.

It is an Android phone and it can happen that the phone lights up, shows charging but the battery percentage does not go up.

Yeah I am a holster guy (old school). I didn't see anything in there but blew it out with dry air anyway.

Might just be time for a new phone.

sometimes my iphone enters some sorta long charge, I don't know why, instead of charging from dead to full in under an hour it'll take literally all night. it will give me an alert that it's in this slow charge mode though, still don't know why it does it.
maybe the android is doing something like that?

I'm inclined not to think that since you said it works right in the house though?

I did check my phone settings and fast charging is turned on. I plugged it in in the house at 3% and a few minutes later it was at 26%.

Everything is pointing to charging in the truck only.

there are only 4 wires involved in the usb connector...and two of them are not necessary for charging.
the 2 inner wires are Data+ and Data-. They are only important if you are connecting to a serial bus or possibly involved in quick charging.
The two outer wires are Power and Ground. you need these to charge.
    usb pinoout.jpg

to easily test a usb port for power, i made a simple converter that feeds a couple of VOM/DMM connectors.
I just plug it into the meter and read the voltage across Power and Ground.
I'd start there to know where to look next.
Of course you could just probe the connector in the dash but be careful not to slip and apply 5volts to data lines.
Much safer making a simple converter at the cost of a usb cable. everyone has too many laying around.
and it is handy next time. there will be a next time. :)

    converter.jpg

    EDIT:
As far as Data lines being involved: (needs Power and Ground first of course)
"Quick Charge can increase voltage, to avoid accidental doing that it requires some special voltage on the usb data pins and it is the device that wishes fast charging that must provide the voltage, then the charger will switch to a higher voltage on the usb."
You could make a more complicated converter cable to probe these lines while your phone is plugged in.

Try another phone in your truck. If it charges then the problem is not with your truck.

My wife's iphone would not charge either.

Is an app needed to charge using the truck USB port ?

I’m pretty sure the USB port isn’t for charging on a 2017 - it’s a very low amp port for data- put a usb thumb drive in there to play music… you will have to use the cigarette lighter or install your own.

The cigarette lighter USB adapter crapped out. Put in a new one and it charges the phone now.

Glad to learn about the USB port only being for data and where the fuse blocks are located for the future.

Glad you figured it out. I guess that USB adapter failed sometime between post #1 when you ruled it out, and today when it crapped out? ;)
