Which brand of truck cap (available in Canada) do you prefer? Please vote, and mention reasons for your choice. Also, I am interested in Canadian pricing for each brand. Furthermore, are there any other brands available in The North? Finally, post some pictures of your Canadian caps.

Caps are super expensive here in Canada, well they were when I was pricing them out last winter for my tundra. I believe I was quoted 4-5k for a leer at the time, I was shocked, also believe they were trying to screw me around.

My Leer 100RCC was just over $3K and that was back when our dollar was worth more against the USD

Yeah, so the caps area probably still pushing 4k'ish.

Here is what a local Leer dealer quoted me for a 2016 short box cap (not sure if long box is more, I would guess it would be) - all prices before taxes, as of April 9, 2016:
100XL: $2695 CAD (included front sliding window upgrade)
    100XR: $2295 CAD (same upgrade)
180: $2150 (not sure if upgrade was included or not)

I also asked about some of the other upgrades:
Thule Tracker II Roof Rack System with locks: $425
    Overhead Gear Net: $80
Pet Screens: $120 (I believe that's for both sides)

Within about a month I am planning to see an ARE dealer, I'm very curious what their prices are like. I will post once I find out.

Well that's not too bad of a price.

Not too bad, but I still have to add Ontario HST at 13%. That will take it closer to 4k, and I'm not quoting anything really fancy.

Yeah, that is where i am sitting as well on the pricing. The ARE I was quoted was about 4k Tax n/inc and as the overland version for a 6 foot bed. I'm sure their other models were cheaper I just like the look of that one. I immediately crossed it off the list when I heard that price.

Yeah, the cap is almost 10% of the price of the truck. I was hoping for about 5%, I would have thought that to be more reasonable.

So far Leer seems to be the preferred choice here, but nobody said why. In the States, Snugtop has a bit of a following, but I don't believe there are any Canadian dealers near me.

Yeah I like the snuggies as well, Leer to me and from what i have seen just don;t fit the trucks that well. Might have just been the installs I saw though.

I'm going to have to go get me a snugtop just to mess up with that scoring.

I had a Leer for a long time on my last truck and liked it, paint match was perfect and it looked and worked well for a long time but I was always needing to remove it to make it easier to access for loading.

Sooooo, I bought a Softopper. Now I can have a yard of soil, or a face cord of firewood, or whatever I need dropped in from a tractor bucket and I can even stand in the back of the truck to hand bomb stuff and then just fold the top up and I'm good to go.

$1000ish CAD delivered. Weighs less than 50 lbs, folds up in 30 seconds, goes back up in 90 and can be stored anywhere it's so light.

Yeah I like those too. My only problem is having a metric shitload of scuba gear bye my buddy and me in the back that isn't very well secured.

Some of the gear is easy to walk off with and can set you back a grand or two. Not that I've had it happen without a topper, but I'd like to avoid that if at all possible.

    I chose Arrow

They are a local BC company, caps are made custom after you order them, price was less than the Leer, ARE, big names that had to be shipped.
The owner of the company met me at the factory in Summerland on a Saturday morning to do the install himself.

It's been an awesome cap, not a second of trouble. The next Tacoma will get another Arrow as well.

I just looked at the Arrow website. Too bad we don't have any dealers on the Eastern side of the country. Your truck looks really nice with it.

Well, I checked out the ARE dealer today and here is some info on what they have available for a 2016 short box Taco:
    Z series $3619
V series $1899 (not a true ARE, but made by them, under Action brand and model name Contour 3)
    Overland $2679
    MX series $2765

Now, here are some option prices:
    OTR coating $690
    Yakima whispbar roof rack $598
    Fishing rod holder $47
Tilt down, slider front window $129
    Petscreen $47/each
    Compression boot $70
    Battery dome light $62
Tacoma installation kit $46 (apparently not an option, but requirement for a Taco)
    Installation fee $88

In the end, I put down a deposit on the Action branded cap, with all of the above options, except the rod holder. Total damage after Ontario taxes $4153.88. Ouch. I hope I like it. A lot.

Reasons for the choice: availability of the OTR option, and seemingly a better fit than Leer. Never considered anything else as I have no other dealers in about 500 km radius.
