In South Louisiana and was out of power for 6 days. Gas was very hard to come by for my generator and I had a full tank of gas. Got power now though.

Is it possible to siphon gas out of a Tacoma? I have read on a lot of newer vehicles, its not possible.

Not out of the filler neck. There is a ball that stops it. But if you can remove the filler neck from the tank then you could siphon directly from the tank.

If you’re going to disconnect a line and use the fuel pump just be careful. Lots of pressure.

Correct, on the Tacoma there is a screen in the filler neck. You may need to disconnect the fuel line under the hood, and have the fuel pump, pump it out for you.

Or rummaging from other wrecked Tacos in a survival situation?

Put a large Tupperware box (20 gallon) under the tank and hand drill the tank. Transfer gas to a correct storage container quickly in case it breaks down the Tupperware, spills out, and creates an insane flash fire hazard.

Good idea, though I would probably disconnect a line under the truck
I don't think it's possible on a Taco. As someone else has said, your best bet would be to disconnect a line under the hood or possibly along the frame rail.

FWIW I ran into a similar situation when I worked in Houston immediately following the passage of Hurricane Ike back in '08. I was there for work and everything we had required the use of generators. Gas and Diesel was in very short supply so for the first few days we had to get real creative and thrifty to make what we could get last. When I got back to So.Cal. I decided to get a dual-fuel generator (gas and Propane), my thought being that just about everyone has a backyard BBQ with a Propane tank, so in theory you could stay running even if you couldn't get gas or Diesel. Might be something to look into for next time. Good luck!

I needed some gas for my lawnmower so go the hose out and stuck it in the taco tank and no way it would go in more than 4 inches so definately a screen stopping it.

Will the fuel pump work that way ? I thought it cuts off for safety when it doesn't see some back pressure, in the event that a line would get severed if the vehicle was in an accident.

There are kits for most generators to convert to propane or Nat. gas. They work great, as I have done a few and set them up on a quick connect. It has been a while but Richard @ Propane Carbs is very versed in the subject. 1-877-425-8383.

While you won't be able to siphon has from the tacoma, its still possible for someone to pour nasty chit in your tank. A locking gas cap helps. Stant makes a good one.

I can siphon gas from my taco. I just have to use brake clean straws that're glued together. Takes a while but I filled up 5gals the other day.

Be careful with the locking caps = tried the Stant off Amazon and CEL came on right away. Had to disconnect battery for 10 min to clear it. PITA

I'd love to find a working lock cap without this issue.

    Dude. Ike suuuuucked.

My house was without power for 23 days on that one. Had two cars and decided that we were going to use one at a time. Ran the first car down to 1/4 tank then switched to the other. By the time the second car reached 1/4 tank some stations were starting to open back up.

Fortunately we had cool neighbors though. Everyone cooked for everyone. A tray of cookies made two laps around our cul de sac. One guy ran extension cords to his welding truck so that those of us without generators could at least keep the freezers from spoiling. I vowed that would be the last storm to be without my own generator.

I've been using a Rebranded Stant 10504 for 5 years with no CEL light. Have to make sure it clicks 3 times when putting it on. Other TW members say the 10504 works for them too. I did buy mine at Carquest. I tried a Duralast cap that fit but made the CEL light come on so I believe finding the right cap is hit or miss.

I took a look at my past Amazon order = mine is a 10504 as well. I might give it another try with 3 clicks. Thanks for listing where you got yours. It's a non expensive item might try one from Carquest as well.

A lot of newer vehicles can't have their fuel siphoned out, ours included. But, there's nothing stopping them from making a hole in your tank ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is how we used to get gas out of my old BMWs. We just pulled a line from the fuel rail, hooked up a hose and jumped the pump.

Yes, Ike was a heck of a storm! It’s funny you mentioned cookies, working in Houston someone brought my crew and I cookies LOL! We also got invited to a lot of homes for dinners on the weekend. It really showed me how people can come together when they need to.

I hate siphoning gas. It all’s goes back to a moment when we (my friends and I) deemed it neccassary. My friend said “fuck, I really didn’t want to get gas in my mouth today”. Lol.
