Not looking to steal my own gas, but with the cost of gas rising, is this even a concern?

Is there a filler neck baffle or sumpin’ to prevent the cracked-out C.H.U.D.s, or your desperate neighbours, from siphoning your gas?

Most theives are now just drilling the tank... and yes, that's easy to do on a Tacoma.

    You can't even siphon a 1st gen.

Tank drilling is the preferred method of thieves.

Don't wast your money on a keyed gas cap. That only prevent things being poured into your tank.

Which there was one thread on TW that explained the heartache of such an act.

Locking gas caps just ensure they stab your tank instead. Yes, it can be siphoned though it's more of a pain for them. I'll refrain from most politics but, live somewhere you can protect your property and criminals go to jail still.

From all the cars an trucks in a neighborhood why would they siphon your Tacoma?! If anything thieves will most likely target a larger vehicle like a uhaul truck or something. :bored:

How to siphon gas out of newer cars – FlowJoe

Possible with the right tools and a lot of skill. But it's just easier to drill a hole on the bottom of the tank. I wouldn't spend money on a locking cap.

I can tell you that siphoning is very rare now.

The plastic tank means people drill tacoma tanks. Not common, but more likely than a siphon.

I'd never bother with a locking cap, many cause more issues than its worth.

I've seen 1 siphon in the last 15 years, it was a corolla and it damaged the antisiphon valve with the method they used.

Depends on the neighborhood. Not many uhaul’s in mine. If it did happen trucks would be the prime target. Large tanks easy to crawl under. Haven’t heard of this being a problem though.

You can easily siphon any 1g -3g gas tank with a large hose, and it does not entail drilling out the gas tank, but I’m not going to publicly say how. If interested just PM me.

Sad thing is there’s not much you can do to prevent it. I wouldn’t bother with a locking gas cap either, the idiots that tried to drill my cap off couldn’t and so they drilled the tank instead, even though it had steel skids, they just tapped the side above the skid.

I keep a harbor freight driveway monitor attached to my truck with a magnet when I’m parking on the street, It’ll set off the alarm even as far as my bedroom when anything moves around close to the truck. Trick is to put it about chest height so you don’t have cats setting it off.

You get A locking cap, they drill the tank. And take cats too

$20 bucks for a gas cap or $$$ for a new tank? And the hassles…
