3 inch lift kit. Not done by me
    I recently bought a 2007 Chevy Avalanche.

It has a 3 inch lift kit. It also has a “service suspension message” up. Dealer that sold it says the error message is because of the lift kit. Ignore it.

    I don’t believe that.

Someone else told me that he can’t sell a truck as certified with this after market lift kit.

    Is this true?

They can sell anything they want. They just have you sing a paper that states that you are buying the car as is.

Not sure about Chevrolet, but Toyota's certified pre-owned vehicle program limits the age of the vehicle to 6 years. If Chevrolet is similar, then even without the lift they wouldn't be able to sell it as certified.
As far as the error message , take it to a mechanic you trust and let them look at it.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they only sell preowned vehicles as “certified” if they’re stock.

    But, why does it matter?

You know this is a Tacoma forum, right?

    Not a Chevrolet forum.

Not a law office to interpret your states laws on lifts, inspections and resales.

Seems there may be a bit of chicanery in this post. New guy swinging in with really off kilter questions.

It’s hilarious that I didn’t notice the very dumbest part of this thread.

OK, I can make it easier for you then.

Can someone sell a Tacoma, in Ontario, with an aftermarket lift kit.

The answer is “no”. According to
    https://www.omvic.on.ca/portal/Consumers/Complaints/BeforeFilingaComplaint.aspx

It does not pass the Safety Standards test with an aftermarket lift kit. Especially when it has a “service suspension system” message displayed.

Could be useful information to anyone who has a lift on a truck.
    Just sayin….

I think people are wondering what you are trying to resolve here?

You bought a vehicle that has problems. Did you not notice the dash light during the test, or did the dealer talk you into signing anyway?

Are you trying to find a legal loophole to return it? Are you trying to find a way for the dealer to warranty a repair on an as-is purchase?

In any case, better call Saul. You'll get better knowledge of local Ontario consumer law from an Ontario lawyer that specializes in consumer cases, than either Google or an Internet yahoo from Texas could ever provide.

Unfortunately you can't sell them once lifted. Best thing to do is leave it in neutral at the boat ramp. Especially if it's a Chevy.

No legal needed bud when the dealer sells it ILLEGALLY. Was told that yesterday by OMVIC.

    Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council

They have informed me, under Ontario Law, a modified vehicle can not be resold as certified with an aftermarket lift kit.

It has to be reverted back to the original way. ESPECIALLY if a warning light is on.

And “yes”, the dealer told me to ignore, and that it means nothing and I bitched about it the whole time.

Don’t need to talk to anyone else buddy. I have my evidence and been told what he did wrong in the sale. Misrepresentation is a big thing in car sales. Research it.

I have been told, by OMVIC, that THEY will FORCE him to make ALL REPAIRS.

In other words, the “aftermarket” lift kit has to be taken off before resale as a CERTIFIED VEHICLE.

His failure to do that, or even to tell me that it was AFTERMARKET (misrepresentation), means that he will be ordered to fix anything that the aftermarket lift kit did to the suspension.

So fuck no! Why would I take this truck back when I have been told by OMVIC, to issue a letter to him to demand he do ALL REPAIRS, free of charge.

That repair bill could be more than the truck is worth. It could have a bent frame even….he might have to replace nearly everything underneath.

    EVERYTHING….

I have also been told to get a third party quote, and give it to the dealer. At his cost.

So YEP, so I posted this as a warning to ANYONE who has an aftermarket lift truck. Buyer or dealer.
