Since I bought my new to me taco, the volume nob has always been... Odd, it doesn't go up or down it just figits like crazy no matter how you turn it. (As in, you turn it up or down and the volume randomly jumps up and down 1-5 unit's)
POT switch gone bad I assume, can this be replaced? Or cleaned?

Didn't see any threads talking about it so here I am :p

Nock it around a little bit and it might work.

Tried, makes no difference at all... Does it come off? I have some POT cleaner I could try.

U can pop the knob off just pulls off and try electronic/contact cleaner. It probably won't help much at all. Mine acts the same as yours. It's a fairly common issue with our Taco radios.

Either use the steering wheel controls or upgrade to an aftermarket head unit. I wouldn't bother trying to fix it beyond trying to clean contacts. Even if that works it's temporary.

Well what I do not understand is that the frequency tuner knob works just fine. Do both of them typically go out? Or just the volume one?

Only my volume knob acts up. I haven't seen or heard of the tuner knob doing it. I guess volume gets used more maybe. No idea.

I had this same problem, and pulling the volume knob off and shooting some electronic contact cleaner in the hole worked well for me. I made sure to rotate the knob a bunch after putting it back on and it's held up well for about a year and a half.

There are replacement knobs available. Can’t find the link but search the forum for “Hondo garage”.

The Knob isn't the problem. The problem is the pot inside the stereo. The only good way to clean it is to remove the stereo then open it up to get at the pot windings. Spray them off with contact cleaner along with the wiper arm.

    Or go here: https://www.crutchfield.com/S-Jd9lJr8jFd6/car/carselector.aspx

And replace it with a good stereo.

I actually like the stock radio's look. Nice and simple!

I will try to repair it and post my results when I do. :)

    Will do.

Do you or anyone else know of a disassembly guide for the radio?

Listen to this man and try swapping. :) Then go get these knobs anyway they look pretty slick. I wasnt willing to buy them. I just use my steering wheel controls until I pony up and buy a new head unit.

You do realize that the Knob has nothing to do with the volume control right? It is only a piece of molded plastic.

The little post that the knob goes on and is connected to a variable potentiometer inside the stereo is what actually controls the volume.
