Can the grill emblem on a TRD OR be disassembled?

I really don’t mind the factory grill, and don’t really want a pro grill. But I’d love to pop that sucker apart and get rid of that chrome. Can it be done? I was surprised to not find a black replacement available that works with the radar….or did I miss one?

I mean, anything can be disasembled... But if you have the sensor behind it, probably best not to.
I got lucky and everything works with my knock off pro grille and sensor overlay. But if I was you, just get some vinyl tint and cover it up and it should be fine. I thought about doing that too. Not a bad looking grille IMO.

Robmotive did a complete video on just this topic. He is very much known to hate chrome too! Here is a link to how he dealt with it:

I can’t stomach that guy or his click bait titles!! I’m going to see what a spare would cost and see if I can open it up.

I just used some vivant headlight tint and it worked perfect, blacked out the chrome and the sensor still works. You can find it on Amazon for cheap

Hey, I know he is a little over the top sometimes, but he has put several videos out there that are very worthwhile and helpful to the community here. And this video is one of them, as it does pertain to your question and provides at least, one solution.

I'm currently very confused. I ordered a TRD OR Style Grill with Raptor lights for my tacoma. Grill installed fine, but my toyota center doesn't fit in the center of the grill. Do the TRD OR and SR use different emblems?

Just add vinyl wrap over it. I did it to mine. Going on 3 years now with no issues

I swapped my SR grille for another SR grille (mine is a 2019, and I went to a 2020+ grille). The center emblem was different on those. While I cant say anything regarding the TRD ones, the SR is different than the SR in some cases at least.

That's pretty much the same grille. Forgive me if this seems dense but a vinyl wrap would be just using something to cover it without the Emblem?

Thank you for this information. Mines a 2021. Strange ain't it? What did you end up doing?

Luckily the new grille had the emblem, so I just used it. I wrapped my original in vinyl, so that is why I tried using it first. They were the same size, and the TSS mounted the same, but the tabs were way different.

The emblem is under it. It’s just a giant sticker put over top. I can peel this vinyl wrap off and it will be back to the factory look

Anyone figured this out yet? I have a spare emblem that I’m willing to destroy (I prefer not to).

I figure if I bake it like headlights to open it, that there is no way it will work. The plastic lens looks like it is bonded to the base.

I’m thinking of a thin blade, on low speed, on a Dremel, and just take it slow at the seem atriums the edge of the emblem.

It is hard to believe that nobody has video, pictures, or even some commentary about trying to open this thing, success or fail.

Has anyone actually tried this, found someone that has tried it, or is it a complete lost cause? I’m willing to destroy it to find out.

I’m tracking I can put vinyl, tint, paint, a sticker, etc over the clear plastic. But these should be for sale, aftermarket, by now. Someone like Meso Customs could take 100% of the market of custom emblems.
