What is the story behind the tri-color badge on every single Instagram Tacoma pic?

Sorry, I still don’t get it. What does that link have to do with the question? Is the badge associated with the guy?

It was Ivan's many Championships and wins that made the livery popular.

    lol :smash:

i guess yall are right, the tri color started and ended with ivan stewart

the fact that toyota was using the tri color livery since the 70s has nothing to do with the OPs question

    it was ivan not toyota

Are you talking about these? Because no, before this thread nobody has ever seen them.

Seems like a trend waiting to take off..

I think when I say Castrol Toyota everyone knows we are talking WRC or Tom's Supra.

Almost everybody knows Ivan Stewart and recognizes his trucks. When you think of the tri-color livery you think of Ivan Stewart. Yes there were tri-color livery's before but who actually won championships and brought the Tri-color to the main stream? I knew about Ivan Stewart and the livery long before I could even drive.

the OP didnt know so the question was asked... in asking the meaning behind the tri color which predates ivan, not trying to prove anyone wrong I 100% agree the tri color toyota truck is synonymous with ivan stewart, perhaps a toyota historian can chime in and clarify where it originated...

The OP's question was the story behind the tri-color badge. I'd say the main reason it's popular with Toyota trucks is because of Ivan Stewart. The Celica Turbo in the 80's was piloted by a few drivers but I couldn't name them without looking it up. On cars I'd say the livery is in homage to the Celica Turbos and for trucks it's paying homage to Ivan Stewart.
