Kind of a dumb question but can someone explain the draw to these for me?

I looked at the parts and to me it seems like its way overpriced. I see the camp stove burners going for $25-40. Propane tanks are 2 for $8. Does the disc and legs really cost over $300 to make/build or assemble?

I don't get it. I rocked a $50 coleman party grill last time I camped and it worked just fine, ha.

It's just a fancy prepackaged plow disk cooker; it goes along nicely with your Snow Peak gear. It's nice that they've done all of the work for you and that it has legs so that you don't have to stoop but folks have been cooking on similar devices for centuries.

I grabbed one of the Bayou griddles on the recommendation of one of the guys on expo and it's worked fine. Watch for Amazon to have them in stock and they're like $26 w/ free shipping if you have prime. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000BXHL6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use it with the legs over a fire occasionally but most of the time I use it on my Gas One butane stove. Put the stove on the table, put the griddle on the stove and cook. There are other manufactures of similar griddles in lots of different sizes as well as videos on youtube showing you how to weld up the hole in a plow disk (John Deere also catalogs some without holes), add legs, etc.

ETA- Here's the expo thread I mentioned: https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/diy-discada-skottle-cooker-65-00.201630/

Thanks for the link Baja, looks like a better option.

Still seems like a fad to me, ha. I'll keep my little Weber. Works amazing, packs into a rubber tote, and does double duty as my house grill.

Skottle is awesome. I cook on it constantly for almost every meal other than coffee. I agree it's expensive (I didn't buy it) for what you get and the flame control should be of better quality. But it really works well for everything from pancakes to sausage/potatoes/eggs to steaks and fish. It takes a little getting use to how to use the edges for warmth and to slowly heat things up, etc.
