I have a leer 100xr I believe but I want to put a tent that is about 150 on and myself and other person if I need so an additional 300 pounds minimum. The shell is not a industrial shell but it doesn’t have roof rack rails built into so I have heard that makes it a lot stronger but wanted to see if anyone else has any info from experience. Thanks

If the tent is 150, you need a total more in the 500 range with 2 people, bedding, and some minimal gear.

    And that's with skinny people.

It will be fine for semi regular use. if you leave it full time with heavy use it could develop stress cracks. That’s why commercials are have bracing but many use them without issue.

I will most likely leave the tent on my truck full time and use it MAYBE once a month maybe more maybe less. Do you think with bed stiffeners it will be ok?

I had the same shell on my ‘09 for 11 years with an RTT, no issues with the bed spreading or shell cracking. I had 300+ nights in it. I currently have the same set up in my ‘21 with 30ish nights in the tent, no issues.

This is why I went with an alucab canopy it's designed to support weight.

ifyou wheel hard and or like to go fast off road i would brace it. my lear started to crack after a bit. i made a internal cage to help support it.

Isn’t Leer the only shell that is metal?

I don’t know if they separate into 2 versions of one being reinforced to hold more weight
Fiberglass shells seem to do that
