My 2021, Tacoma, TRD, double cab, 3.5L. Is suppose to be delivered, Sept 13-15.
I am thinking of cancelling it, because I am afraid that it will not pull a travel trailer..

If you have the tow package your truck will pull it just fine. With the tow package tacomas can pull about 6500 pounds max. Sorry to hear about your health issues.

I have a Geo Pro 19FD. I pulled it with my 2018 TRD Pro Manual truck. I do have a Magnuson SC installed, which helps.
I have seen posts here about people pulling bigger RVs with stock. But it will depend also on the altitude and going uphill.
Also be sure to have a good weight distribution/sway bar system. I have a Blue Ox BXW0650 TrackPro.
I have only traveled once on flat surface.

I have a 2017 offroad doublecab and I pull a Sonic Lite SL169VUD coming in at 3800# dry and 430# tongue weight. I use a reese pro weight distribution hitch which includes a friction sway bar and it tows no issues at all. I have loaded up the trailer to 4200# with zero difference in towing. Run it in S4+ECT and you'll be good to go. I have towed over the cascade range and through the columbia plateau with no issues either way. Don't expect to haul ass going up mountains but otherwise you'll be good.

Yes you're fine. Just watch the payload of your truck (different than towing capacity). A hitch weight of ~409lbs should mean you have anywhere from 500-700lbs for bodies, gear, etc. IN your truck/bed.

    Thank you so much.

Toyota Tacoma can tow travel trailers from 3,500 lbs up to 6,800 lbs, but it can be optimized better with Tacoma TRD Sport Model to tow up to 6,800 lbs.
I figured you guys would know better.
Much love...I just want to fish!

The biggest caution may be cross winds on something that long and high.

    Just be aware.

Nothing really else to add, just also confirming that you'll be fine and the quoted comment generally covers everything.

Don't be afraid to get the RPM's up above 3000 and shift down to S3 or lower if you're going up hill and it seems like the transmission can't pick a gear, then shift back up to S4 once you've crested the hill.

Weight distribution hitch helps a ton with our little trucks.

I have E2 Equalizer WDH with the square bars and tow a Grand Design 17MKE that weighs about 5,100. I have been in 30-40 mph headwinds that when I changed direction became cross winds. you can feel the wind pushing the trailer and truck but they move together. I never felt uncomfortable. I also have the KD Max tune which helps on the power.

2021 Flagstaff E-Pro 19 FD, same unit as the Geo-Pro. Total here about 3800 with E-2 Equalizer hitch. Hooked up with 770 miles on the odo. No problems, do not expect any, towed with with an '18 4R before this pickup, all good.
Picture here before the E-2 installed. Using Tekoshona Primus IQ Controller.

Hey all. I'm new to TW so I'm still mostly lurking and learning. I've got a 2019 trd sport with OME 3" , OME leaf pack, (
ARB Old Man Emu 3 Inch Lift Kit (Medium Load) - OMEKIT-004)

285/70/17 toyos in pro comp wheels. I added a K&N intake just recently.

I'm wondering the same thing as the OP and hoping I didn't reduce my towing capacity with my setup. Any insight would be helpful. I'll post pics soon.

    Thanks!

ops original question was a while ago. What exactly are you asking? Did your lift and/or heavier tires decrease your towing capacity? Yes and no, you added weight to your rig so it's overall weight is now increased which lowers your total weight max. I have the same lift and run 285/75/16's on stock wheels and tow a #3400 trailer no problem, by rig fully loaded without the trailer comes in at #5320 last I checked

Exactly my question, thanks for the response. I'm looking into the MKE17 & Rockwood mini lite trailers. I prefer to have dual axle trailer but weight is the obvious concern. I appreciate your input, it gives me confidence. I don't have any armor or additional weight so I'm thinking I'm good to go.

We are planning on purchasing this exact unit. How do you like it now, and how has towing it on what I assume are a few more trips gone?

It's gone well. We have taken it on a few more trips down into central oregon. I did change to the Equal-i-zer 4point (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MAWXHHO?ie=UTF8) hitch setup and it is SO much better than the reese! Super smooth and the sway control is much better, highly recommend. With the transmission cooler pinned open I never hit trans temps above 180, monitored with a scangauge 2.

I have 2 issues that are worth mentioning (I've changed my setup since), first is that my taco is lifted using the ome 2.5 kit and this makes towing a bit worse as it allows much more air under the vehicle in high winds which makes sway worse, this was mitigated with the better hitch though. The 2nd is that I have a 2 battery setup and this trailer is already a bit heavy on the tongue so be aware of your payload. I have been towing over factory payload by a couple hundred lbs but not worried due to e1 rated tires and the upgraded suspension with medium load leafs in the rear. No real sag in the back and just about an inch higher in the front. Set the WD hitch to lower the front back down by .5 inches and it's good to go.
