I woke up at 5 am this morning and found that my catalytic converter had been cut off last night. Am I able to drive it without one to get to and from work while I wait to get it replaced?IMG_6970.HEIC.jpgIMG_6971.HEIC.jpg

It will be extremely loud where you need earplugs to drive it plus I wouldn't drive long term without cats. I know guys straight pipe their muscle cars etc but let your insurance deal with it and drive the rental they give you until your rig is patched back up. Some fuckwads stole mine a while ago and mine is only a 4cylinder driving it to the shop was definitely an experience lol. They stole it from your driveway?

    Oh look, another mod....
He lives in Austin. That city lets a lot of shit fly that wouldn't fly in other cities. Thus, why his cat got stolen.

OP: Sorry this happened to you, get it fixed soon. You can drive your truck without it, but you'll get a headache from the constant loud noise.

Mine is only a 4cylinder also so I knew something was up straight away. They basically stole it from right outside of my apt since my truck was parked in front of my living room window

Gonna have to get a cat shield now whenever it gets replaced. Didn't think it would happen until it happened especially here ya know

    Yeah, I hear you.

My Tacoma stays in the garage so not as worried. Still think I should get a shield for it and probably will at some point. My Tundra is outside and a shield was one of the first things I got for it. At the time it wasn't high on my priority but after seeing more and more peoples get stolen, I wanted more piece of mind and protection. Not a glamorous mod for $700 +/- but I do sleep better.

What a trash city. I went to UT and loved it way back. You could walk the streets at night and feel safe. It was a city but had a small town feel. I went there a few months ago to pick up my truck from Toyota of Cedar Park and Austin is trash now. Homeless everywhere, trash everywhere, congestion. That city wasn’t built to be a major metropolitan, and all the issues are showing.

Get a cat shield OP, and park in a garage if you can, or better yet, move away from Austin cause it’s not going to get any better, only worse.

Clamp a cheap muffler onto the pipe until you can fix it. Probably throw a code, hopefully it doesn't go into a limp home mode. Did they get the forward o2 sensor?

Yes. Ignore the cel. Be careful because exhaust will probably fill the cab when not moving.

It will go into open loop only if they took that front o2 but not limp mode.

It's technically illegal. I'm sure you would get a pass if it was reported stolen but still illegal none the less.

Now you'll sound just like the cool kids with the Hondas. Slap on a Type R sticker and you're straight pimpin' my man.

I wonder what the penalty is for driving without a catalytic converter? I mean I’ve read that catalytic converter theives get a $100 bond and then a $500 fine. So for us working folk, they’d probably throw us in jail for 2 years and give us a $5,000 fine for driving without the catalytic converter that those theives stole from us.
