Its on a 95 tacoma with a 2.4, it has a large whole right before the cat and the cat is pretty rusty, and i want to quiet this thing down, if i brought it to a local exhaust shop they can cut that stuff out and just weld in a pipe pretty cheap. Has anyone else done this? Will eliminating the cat and o2 sensors fvck with the computer at all or make it run funny? I just want it to be quiet again it sounds like sh!t....

just replace the cat with a new one ($100) and have them weld it in.

I dont care if the check engine light is on, i dont have to take emissions with this truck. I just want to make it quieter then it is now, without spending to much money on it.... sensors are like $60-80 a pop and $100 for a cat, rather not. I guess ill try and keep the front o2 sensor, i guess ill have to look again and make sure the pipe isnt to rusted around the first o2 sensor.

    Any other opinions/suggestions with this?

To make it quieter, you have to put another cat in. A test pipe will make about the same noise, just out the back.

To each his own, but I always cringe when people say they don't care about the CEL. It is there for a reason. It is to help in the possibility to warn you of a problem before you break down. Many times codes will set as a precursor for an impending bigger issue. Knowing this can mean the difference between seeing a check engine light come on and fixing a problem early, or having you or a family member driving down the highway and breaking down. I always make sure all vehicles in the family household get repaired the minute a CEL comes on. I don't want to have to worry about a teenaged daughter breaking down on the way home from work. Just my opinion of course.

I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
one thing, when I see your posts.... it always takes me back to the early 90s to my first mardi gras and it got to 85 and sunny on fat tuesday and the french quarter was packed, and with your know what!

its not difficult to do, if I did it anyone can, but when I modded my stang, exhaust, headers, high-flow cats, and I went from 4 cats to 2, I never threw a code.

If first o2 sensor works use it. u can remove cat or buy a cheap one second o2 sensor wont change how your truck runs just the one before the cat. i would probally spend the money on the o2 sensor before the cat. before u buy a new cat conv, if money is tight.

My comments are not about how you can change things to not throw a code. It is my personal opinion, so consider it as such, but catalytic converters are there for a reason. I would like to know that I did my part so that my children and grandchildren and great grand children can actually stay outside and breath the air. Making modes such as you are talking about allow pollutants to enter the atmosphere that the system is supposed to remove. Again, it is a matter of opinion. I believe that when you fix something, you should fix it right, not try to find a way to cheat the system.

Not trying to cheat anybody, I pay my taxes got to work everyday and take care of my own. I am not required by law to outfit my vehicle with a cat. But I have lived in states where you do. I also hate gas prices we get raped there every day. Now knowing that and government regulating witch state you have testing, not only do u get raped at the pump you help them out by keeping it on there. If yours look at the calculations in ppm you do not see a very big difference. JUST MY OPINION THOUGH.

CO2 is plant food. "Global Warming", "climate change" or whatever name they re-brand with next, is a scam. Just like pretty much everything else, in this corrupt world we live in, but i get your point. Oh yea, your children and grandchildren, mine as well, have a terrible future to live through. See, our generation, is too preoccupied with bullshit to make any significant change that will ensure a better future for our children & grandchildren. We accept being lied to about pretty much everything in exchange for bullshit privileges like entertainment tv, sports, video games, gadgets etc. So, fuck the kids, i guess. weve got some celebrity gossip to disguss. thank god for freedom. right. right . land of the free, home of the slaves. merica.

Yes, CO2 is plant food. You are correct. However the byproduct of engine operation is NOT CO2, it is CO. Totally different, and very hazardous for the environment. Maybe the kids and grandkids may have a terrible future to face. But I don't want MY lack of care or concern contribute to the problem. I would like to think I do my best to at least TRY and help them out. YOU may say fuck the kids, but I absolutely love my kids and grandkids. Sorry if you don't feel the same.

    Ear plugs are even cheaper.
    Nice first post btw...

You can always move to a different country that doesn't value the environment as much as the US does, so you can be free to pollute as much as you like. I hear Cambodia and Haiti have pretty lax environmental regulations.

But if you have some peer reviewed science that backs up your claims that climate change is a scam, it's be cool if you posted those up, buuuuutttt... I'm willing to bet your views on climate change are based more on political bias than actual facts.
