Cant believe I forgot to mention this. My dealer frequently advertises free window tint and nitrogen tire crap. $399 value they say. Well, when I was negotiating price on my new Taco I told my sales guy if the give me my tint we have a deal. His GM said its already legal limit. BS! There is no legal limit on back doors and rear here, just front two doors. So, I called a very well reviewed and respected tint place in town and they said most dealers don't even tint back doors or back windows, only front 2. He said most likely smoked glass, which is cosmetic only. No heat reduction or UV protection. Sure enough, no tint on back. So I got pricing for ceramic tint top of the line. I told Toyota this was what I wanted. Let me take my truck and you pay. They agreed to $200 reimbursement. I said no, I want $300. They said no. I said I'm not coming to get truck then. Got message 10 minutes later saying, done. Got my lifetime warranty ceramic tint, brought receipt back and they cut me check.

My truck is way cooler on inside, looks great, no UV or fading, peeling ever. If you live in south or east, get it!

What if I live in the mid-west? Be alright if I get my truck windows tinted?

In the mid-west you need the tornado approved tint..(2x4's will not penetrate that stuff)..!

In all seriousness, I thought you all might find the tint story interesting, maybe not. Was wondering if any others had experience with this?

Very interesting actually. To see the different likes and dislikes of people depending on where they live. Actually up here in The Great White North it's very illegal to tint those front windows any more than the manufacturer does...and it's nice to let in some UV to help warm up your truck in the morning, after the snow melts...

Just funnin' with ya.... Give Ma Toyota the finger for me too..!!

I'm trying to figure out how this is a "Toyota" problem. Seems more like a dealer issue to me.

The auto glass, even smoked is uv protecting. Not ir or particularly useful for heat, but it does block UV.

Perfectly put. Technically the glass is tinted, it may not have all the same UV resistant qualities as aftermarket but it is tinted.

It just looks like dark tint, but with ceramic the heat reduction is much better. Click on my profile and you can see pics.

No, actually it's not. The main issue I have is them telling people bs. If so, not much. Mainly cosmetic. And I guess this would be dealer, not Toyota. Wanting to know if your trucks came tinted in back or smoked? Roll down Windows and look at top, do you see tint?

My tint man has been tinting for 35 years, he has tinted every vehicle that I have owned in the last 30 years, he told me just last week that the so called factory tint is just smoked glass, NOT tint, he said it does NOT block out any UV`s.

I had him tint my front windows a few months back and as soon as I can get an appointment I will have him put 20% on the rear.

I've been meaning to get my front two windows matched up to my rear....but it's SO EXPENSIVE to get a decent tint job around here. Plus, most places do shit work.

In Texas, there is a legal limit of 35% on front two, might be 30 now. Back two and rear no legal limit. I did 30 on front two and limo tint on back, back up camera is life saver! I wanted to add the clear ceramic on front windshield, but I'm waiting. The ceramic adds strength for security as well, makes Windows harder to break.

You get what you pay for. Last 3 vehicles, I've only paid for one to be tinted. I haggle for tint at my choice of location. Always trying!

I have an even worse one... My Tacoma had tint film on the rear windows and back window. Not even smoked glass... Found out the hard way when I went to get my windows tinted with the ceramic tint and they could only do the fronts and the tint strip on the windshield. :frusty:

So now I have another appointment for two weeks from now to get the old tint removed and the new tint on.
