Sick bike bro. So much cooler than a new showroom machine.

I second the Conti’s as I have a set on my Forester work mobile and the best treadwear and wet traction of any tire I’ve had of any tire yet, 35k in mostly twisty mountain roads, as for a AT on a Taco I had a set of Toyo OC AT3’s and they were really quiet in 265/75/16 before I switched to 33’s, also Cooper AT’s are quiet but not as good in mud or snow.

I stuck some Michelin Defenders on my new 2021. Have used them on both my 06 and 00 Taco.. much better for the ear drums if you put some highway miles on for a commute or to get to the good stuff..

They work well offroad as long as you air down and understand the limitations

What Cooper tires were you running? The Disco AT3's are way lighter that BFG KO2's or Wildpeak AT3W's.

Replaced Geolanders with BFG long trials on my 2000 4runner. What a mistake, the BFGs scream on the highway. It’s now difficult to carry on a conversation. Already looking for replacements even though there is plenty of tread left.

    Anybody tried Firestone A/T2 Destinations?

I'm running Milestar Patagonia A/Ts, bought for both price and noise rating. They are quiet at 20K but they seem to be wearing faster than I would expect. I do go on a lot of gravel roads so that may affect wear.

I've also had the tighter tread Yokohama Geolander A/Ts on three vehicles and I would buy them again. Mine have never been noisy. They wear well, too.

@mac84, I’m 52 but I have always thought those big mud tires were loud. I refer to them as ‘headache tires’

I did end up backing a few pounds off to the atmosphere and it did make it somewhat more quiet

I had a tire shop install my Cooper ATs at 55+ psi and they screamed on the highway, I lowered them to 35 psi and they were quiet as could be. PSI definitely plays a role. I've also driven on them at 15psi for a few miles after doing trail runs and that makes them loud too, but more of a deeper drone rather than a scream.

Well, I meant tire pressure could play a role in tire wear but apparently it can effect loudness too.

    Loud tires have an advantage

I'm not as old as the OP, but in the same camp. I'm not sure what bug crawled up my butt, but I've been on a kick of reducing road noise and improving the speakers.

A new head unit, amp and 4 speakers along with sound deadening matt and closed cell foam and I'm still hearing more road noise than I want. I know...I know....it's s truck. I get that.

I also bought a house in a new construction neighborhood and have tires riddled with finish and framing nails and screws. Wish the construction guys would be more careful with those things on the street, but I guess they don't really care. I've got two rear tires with slow leaks and it has been hard to regulate the PSI. Which is probably the cause of them getting louder too. Anyway, I finally bit the bullet. While the "occasional off roader" in me wanted a more aggressive AT (or even MT), I opted to get the Geolandar A/T G015s after doing some initial research. They are less aggressive, so I'm hoping that they are quieter than most.

Why were they annoying? I'm scheduled to get them installed tomorrow.

Were those the G015, or the previous version? (or were they both)

Yeah, my 3/4 ton GMC has G015s, as did my Ram truck and my first gen Taco. Loved the tires on each, thus the rebuys. I'm thinking hard about replacing the tires on my newly purchased insurance auction Taco because it has a tire that was destroyed. (BFG T/A K02) and I have no affinity for BFGs. So what to do? Cheaper to go with a BFG, but then I'd have to be stuck with them until they wear out.

the constant howl of mud terrains gets old but dang they look good.

sounds like you need a road tire.

I've had the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015s on my truck for 2 days now.

I've only got like 30 miles on them, but the truck feels good and I can hear the radio better. So while they aren't particularly aggressive, I'm happy with the purchase.

First thing my wife said when I got home "Those look boring. I'm surprised you bought those!"

....but they are an AT tire with a good treadwear warranty, have the severe snow rating, and are the quietest AT tire I've ever owned. The old man in me is pleased. Can't wait to put them through their paces.

The tire hum will be worth the traction in Utah. Maybe use this time before your trip to instal sound deadening, best of both worlds
