Does anyone know the size for the bolts that mount the calipers to the spindles? Chances are excellent mine are going to break, so I'd rather have them on hand.

    Thanks!

    Edited with answer:

    Toyota P/N: 90080-10213
Dimensions: JIS M12x1.25x33.25mm flange bolt, grade 10.9 (slightly longer will fit fine)
    McMaster P/N (Pack of 10): 95735A117 (JIS M12x1.25x35mm, Grade 10.9)

But, surely, one bolt will come out so you can measure it.

Why you think it’s going to break? Don't use a power tool to break the bolt free. Use a 6 point socket on a breaker bar. Maybe throw some penetrating oil the days before attempting.

We tried doing his brakes on Saturday. No luck even with heat.

PB Blaster twice a day for a week, propane torch, and tight fitting 6 points failed to even budge a single of the four bolts. I would much rather have replacements on hand before getting any more aggressive. They've been on there for years in salt hell.

I guess the next question is, how will you get it out once it does break??

Or possibly cut the caliper body off and get after the threaded end with a center punch and progressive drill bits.

Dang. I might be tempted to just get new knuckles. The run about $90 for china-made knuckles. I see the pair on Amazon for one fifty. Good luck.

Yeah, not a terrible idea, but I would probably want to get OEM. The closest dealer stocks them, at least.

Can you tell where the bolt is stuck? Out near the threads or up by the head? Maybe try more concentrated heat (hotter than propane) and maybe some work with a well placed chisel & hammer

I'm almost certain it's in the knuckle. I've been banging/PB Blasting for a couple days. Gonna make the attempt again in another day or two.

The 2nd sarcastic link above leads to a dealer page that lists it in the notes as 29.5mm. I think I can get 30mm easy enough, and I'm just gonna suck it up and get 10.9s because they tend to hold up better here.

    I didn’t click the link.
I just remember seeing that post.
Toyota uses JIS bolts. Which puts that bolt at about a 7T. I have no idea what that equates to. But 10.9 should be plenty sufficient.

I was a tech for a number of years - I couldn't count the number of brake jobs I have done. I've never broken a caliper bracket bolt...ever. I've had 4 foot breaker bars on them to get them out. I've broken a lot of bolts on purpose too...but never a caliper bracket bolt. I'm not saying it's impossible but I mean you should just apply force until it comes out or breaks. If I were a betting man, I'd bet on it coming out.

Me either. I’ve broken the slide pin bolts on a floating caliper. But never on a fixed caliper. That said, I trust the word of @HAVOC if he says they won’t budge, they probably won’t.

Personally, I’d do just as you. 6-point and crank on them. Something will break loose eventually. Either way, the caliper has to come off to deal with the situation. I feel for OP, he has my luck. Simple jobs that aren’t so simple.

I don’t think it’s gonna break. You just need more leverage. My impact wouldn’t take mine off. I slid a 3’ pipe over a 2’ breaker bar and got em all off no problem.
