One of the new bills that passed in California for 2018 is an exemption for window tint. People with a prescription from a dermatologist can have their front windows tinted up to 30%. At least that is how I am reading the bill

There is a part that talks about the tint having to be colorless but I interpret that as those funky red and bronze tints. Not a regular neutral density tint which is darker but colorless.

Anyone have anymore info on this?

My wife has eczema and is supposed to avoid extra sun exposure as much as possible.

Nope, still means it is clear. Just now you have to have a dermatologist letter to have it.

"This bill would exempt from that prohibition the application of a clear, colorless, and transparent film material that meets specified standards to the windshield, side, or rear windows of a motor vehicle if the driver has in his or her possession, or within the vehicle, a certificate signed by a dermatologist certifying that the person should be not exposed to ultraviolet rays, as specified."

The clear works and would benefit your wife. It doesn't need to have any "color" wether grey, green, bronze, etc... to block the harmful rays to skin.

What a weird law. How would any cop even notice you had clear tint!?

Interesting...I got popped for tinted windows a few years ago (they weren't even that dark, just a shade darker), had to get it removed and show up to court to prove it to a judge with the invoice I got from the removal. Pain in the ass that was.

At the time, I was told that tinted front windows (passenger & driver) was only legal in CA if they came that way from the factory.

It’s a weird law that added the dermatologist note provision in addition to the existing manufacturer information requirement if you get asked about it I guess. Now you can have either a dr. note or the other info. It’s fucking clear, I can’t see a cop even being able to tell it’s on there unless it’s all bubbled up and looks like ass.

Well they wouldn’t pull you over for that but depending on your perceived “attitude” they could potentially notice by looking close and tack that on with the other charges.

I think front tint is like a car when it’s wrapped. Good from far but far from good. You could tell if you looked.

Sorry but I am soooooo glad I don't live in California. I drove through it omw to Alaska. Saw people with this Giant white sticker in there Driver side windows. What's with That? I might get stationed there next but I will NOT register my stuff there.

It seriously goes on the window though? I didn't get close enough to a vehicle to try and read it. I just think it's kinda lame to have a white 6" x 6" sticker in a random spot on the driver window. I did think it was funny that literally off the highway was massive cow slaughter farms...Vegans must love that..

Strange. First time I've ever seen that sticker. My taco didn't have it. Neither did my any of my other cars. I will have to look tomorrow to see if I notice anyone driving with it.

Never seen it in the bay area or LA... I suppose they come with them, it seems like everything in Cali does, but I don't think owners leave them on. Maybe rentals?
