Howdy Y'all I have a 04 3.4L v6 126K on everything. (Shout out to Zeb who I bought the truck from a couple years ago!) with a six pac mini cabover camper on it around 800lbs old man emu suspension and airbags in the back. I am buying a Snowmobile tomorrow and plan to tow it with a very light weight trailer and my sled weighs about 500 lbs

Am i totally maxing payload and towing cap ?

Truck has never had a problem with the camper especially since I put bags on er. here is the photo of the truck and camper / trailer

There is a little sag in the truck right now cause I need to add some air to the bags with trailer.

You are no where near maxing the towing capacity but the payload is a different story.
In the least, I would consider installing a inline trans cooler, better breaks and/or trailer brakes, green clutch fan, and obvious basic maintenance and fluid changes in the entire vehicle
Drive slow and lock it out of Overdrive if you have an auto. It will keep your trans temps down considerably

Slow and easy for the win.

This is not a timed event.

Steep down grades are not your friend

Myself I would take a nice quiet drive avoiding interstates if at all possible .

Now if this same set up will be used to drag the sled a few hundred miles a few times a month to the snow I might rethink things .

That is the essential purpose of this rig. Drive to mountains in the pacific northwest or intermountain west and have my snow pony and my mobile condo

I wouldn't be afraid of it. The suggestions above are good ones. Quad in the truck weighs around 600lbs. Quad on trailer is around 400lbs. Trailer is proly 400lbs. Back seat full of gear, two adults and a dog. Up and down 6.5% grades at 65mph. Stay out of overdrive if your auto trans.Red Toyota with older quads.jpg

I’d definitely look Into bigger brakes and maybe regearing the truck as well if you’re gonna drive like that frequently.

Over GVWR and I keep adding more metal
I had a 99 access cab, manual everything, 4 cyl, 4x4, with no ABS. With my camper and normal gear, and my 16ft boat, stopping in a hurry while wet was sketch! Red lights were always pucker factor.
I don't feel much better in my 2007 so take it as-is

That 800 pounds is your fully loaded camper with all the goodies you need for a few days.

The sled and trailer weight is with all the support gear fuel extra parts etc??

I have the same combo as you except Manual, but my boat was 17.5”. The Manuals handle towing a lot easier than the Autos, my transmission got so hot I could feel the heat through the floor.

Investing in a transmission cooler is definitely a good idea.

You are more than likely near or above your max payload weight with the camper alone. Most cab-overs are simply too heavy for the payload capacity of our trucks. Sure, they "fit" but Tacomas don't exactly have very much load carrying capability.

I have yet to see a cab-over that is light enough to still be able to carry passengers, gear, fuel, etc... in a Tacoma without exceeding the max payload. A 1500# capacity goes QUICK when you already have steel bumpers, winch, a couple adults and a full tank of gas.

Also, while the tow rating is 5k#, that's a MAX. The more weight you're carrying in the truck, the less you can tow. In order to tow that 5k, you need to essentially have almost no weight in the truck.

Only way to know or sure is to get it weighed. You can just google and find a truck stop or something nearby. RVers do it all the time, so just google where to get your RV weighed. Make sure you weigh each axle.

Airbags don't increase your weight capacity, they only make it so it sags less under a given load.

Upgrade your brakes, get a rear sway bar, get good at replacing rear wheel bearings, get rear frame plates and carry spare airbag lines/fittings. Then just drive it easy.
I would be surprised that the camper is under 1k. I have been around cabovers and rebuilt a few and they are way heavier than most think.

Slow and steady, you'll be fine. Just avoid any situations you would have to panic stop, because that aint happening. The motor, trans, and rear end will take it all without a sweat. Those ratings from the factory are probably valid while maintaining some safety features, most specifically braking ability in panic situations. Also I have no idea, but it sounds reasonable.

Definitely pump your rear tires up to max inflation capacity though.

Getting weighed in some cases helps you plan just what roads one needs to avoid !! Enough Said

Curious to hear what the Gross Vehicle Weight comes in at .

If all your personal gear sleeping gear , Clothing , Food maybe water will fit in a Pack you can hump all day in the mountains it is a good start.

This weight has a tendency to add up fast

Definitely interested in what it weighs. What is your floor pack made of? 3/4 plywood? Are the wall studs wood or aluminum tube?
