IIRC most 05's didn't come with filters but the slot for one is there.

Clean? Do not clean it. Replace it. You can never fully clean it.

I bought the truck used in 2016 after test driving the new 16s. It had 65,000 km (42,000 mi) on it then. I bought it from the dealership but not sure if it was replaced or not. Until I go to town to get a new one, I at least cleaned it for now. Moving forward, I will replace it every year.

So many choices for Toyota or any other vehicle manufacturer cabin air filters for that matter! Denso makes for Toyota OEM (original equipment manufacture) cabin filters. About $27-$35 from a dealership. Rockauto sells Denso OE (original equipment) for $4.19ea. Hard to tell the difference from OEM, really. But yes, pick any brand ie. Toyota OEM, Denso, Wix, Fram, Supertech, etc..... I check mine every 5,000mi servicing and change once a year.

Dealer removed my re-usable cabin filter and replaced it with the factory POS - after I told the dufus " service advisor" to leave it alone. Didn't find out until the next cleaning interval.

They didn't have a filter installed but the housing is the same as later years. Just pop the door open and slid one in. The POS plastic nubs that hold the glove box door damper will fail over time though.

On the rare occasions that I order something from Rock Auto I add a couple of the inexpensive TYC filters to my order and just change them out either at oil changes or when needed- I'm waiting on the pine pollen to quit dropping right now then I'll change it.

Contrary to popular belief the OEM filter can be cleaned once or twice before it becomes too nasty. Spring and fall are the worst times for contamination to occur and because it’s easy to service I look at the filter about 4 time’s a year. Depending on where you live and if you park under trees you might be cleaning more often. If you are looking at it that often you can remove light debris like leaves and pollen before it becomes imbedded. It also helps if you have compressed air to blow out and here’s where skill and common sense becomes necessary. Blow hard enough to clean but don’t blow holes in the filter.

Here’s another trick I do because of allergies. When you got it all clean spray that filter with Lysol, common sense again enough to dampen but not soaking wet then reinstall. You can also feed Lysol directly into air intake cowl to kill mold and viruses and get rid of funk smells. Turn to recirc and give that a shot too. Now it smells better and your allergies might be better controlled not having to breath the crap in the vent and filter. Try it

buy the filters online to save, usually OEM can be had for less than 20 bucks. The chinese and off brand filters are cheaper for a reason. The fit is iffy and construction is too.

I tend to open the windows so having the Rolls Royce of cabin filters seems to be a waste of money so unless there's a window air filter I can add to my order, the TYC ones work for me. I need the money to pay for the crush washers when I do an oil change.
