Dumb question, I replaced my Cabin air filter (oem) and the arrow points up saying to install that way but on YouTube a lot of guys are saying that's incorrect and arrow should be pointing down...so which is it lol

Pull your filter out, turn the system on and feel which way the air is moving.

It seems like it all depends on what is printed on the filter. If OEM or Aftermarket. If it says like the OEM pic above this side up, then it should be up but if it says airflow with the arrow, like a Aftermarket one then it should be pointed down??? The outside air intake is above the airfilter box and the air pulls downward toward the blower motor fan. At least this is how i have it. I have sprayed Lysol directly into the air filter area and the spray goes downward. It may be a bit confusing........i need to check this out again.

The arrow is signifying installation orientation, not airflow direction.

For a cabin air filter, does it really make that much of a difference?

As long as you're not taking a dirty one out, flipping it over and putting it back in, i don't think there will be a problem. It's going to catch leaves, dirt, dust, etc, regardless of which way it's put in.

Air flows down. Wouldn’t make much sense to have dirt falling off the bottom instead of sitting on the top where you can remove it .

Knowing Toyota they will probably say some bullshit about you not putting the cabin filter in correctly so they can't warranty your blown engine from low oil pressure due to diesel being put into the blinker fluid tank computer exhaust gas manifold.

I think RUPP1 has the answer. It is confusing. I better turn the fan on with the filter out and see for sure.
Too many after market filters with bogus info. I got a FramFreshbreeze and it says down and all my vents are above the blower motor.
The old one I took out pointed up. Good Luck folks.

Are you applying that same common sense knowledge to the engine air filter too?

Just checked and air flow is down on 2014 Tacoma and 2015 RAV4. It probably doesn't matter, both sides of the filter
    look the same.

Good question Akbar,,,I'd say Yes, dirts on top side, plus my air filters would only fit one way with the gaskets.
