Back story: During the process of replacing the starter on my 18' TRD Sport I mistakenly let the steering wheel column rotate freely and destroy the internal clock spring. This resulted in loss of power to all steering wheel buttons, as well as causing Lane Departure Assist, ABS, Airbag, and Cruise control lights to appear on the dash.

Replaced the clock spring with an Ebay knockoff and regained the horn along with all steering wheel controls. All lights have remained on the dash though, showing that there is still something wrong with the Steering Angle Sensor. Code C1433 Steering Angle Sensor Internal Circuit is given and comes back immediately after being cleared.

I attempted to do a VSC zero point calibration by shorting out the pins with no luck.

My question is if the actual sensor itself is fried and needs to be replace. I'm having a hard time finding information on whether or not over rotating the steering wheel can destroy the sensor the same way it destroyed the clock spring.

    Any insight is appreciated. Thanks

I thought the spiral cable was built into the same assembly as the sensor. Manual seems to imply that separating them would be 'crossing the stream type of bad'

Here is some data for DTC C1432 and C1433.
This will be kinda hard to read, I will try to remember to upload the service manual pages rather than paste in the data later.

DTC C1432 Steering Angle Sensor Power Source Voltage Malfunction
    DESCRIPTION
Steering angle sensor (spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly) signals are sent to the skid control ECU (master
cylinder solenoid) via the CAN communication system. When there is a malfunction in the CAN communication
system, it is detected by the steering angle sensor zero point malfunction diagnostic function.

When the speed sensor or the yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) has trouble,
DTCs for the steering angle sensor (spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly) may be stored even when the
steering angle sensor (spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly) is normal. When DTCs for the speed sensor
or yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) are output together with DTCs for the
steering angle sensor (spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly), inspect and repair the speed sensor and
yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) first, and then inspect and repair the steering
angle sensor (spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly).

    INSPECTION PROCEDURE
    HINT:
When U0073, U0124 and/or U0126 is output together with C1433, inspect and repair the trouble areas

    PROCEDURE
    1. REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
    (a) Replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly .
    NOTICE:
Do not remove the steering angle sensor from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
When replacing the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly, confirm that the replacement part is of the
    correct specification.

That's also where I'm confused, when referring to the sensor sub-assembly it's referring to the steering angle sensor correct? To replace the spiral cable itself the old steering angle sensor must be removed from the original spiral cable and clipped to the new one.

UPDATE: Ordered a new steering angle sensor and replaced the old one now all dash lights are gone.

I'm assuming that the sensor was fried along with the Clock spring when the steering wheel rotated freely.

I have the same code on my truck after replacing the steering rack. All my steering wheel controls and horn still work, do you think I have to change the whole clock spring assembly or just the steering angle sensor?

When I replaced the clock spring I only regained control of the steering controls, to get all the codes to permanently clear I had to replace the steering angle sensor.

I would figure if you still have wheel controls that the clock spring should be fine

Where did you get that steering angle sensor from ? I seen some cheap ones on eBay but I might just get a genuine.

I bought cheap knockoffs from ebay for both the clock spring and steering angle sensor. Neither have given me an issue so far, it was about $70 for the SAS. If I had the money I probably would have gone withe the OEM, the price difference is just so large

I have the same issue, I have a Christmas tree on my dashboard,I got my truck diagnosed and my steering angle internal circuit is messed up, I’ve been to like 2 shops in socal trying to see if they can replace it but they all say only the dealer can do it, did you just replace your SAS and that was it, you didn’t have to calibrate or anything like that, because I’ll just do it myself if I don’t have to do any computer diagnosing or something like that .
