So I’m needing to replace my CV axles each side has torn boots and I’m not sure when they tore. This will be the second replacement in about 25-30k miles…. The first replacement I did was before researching, so I no longer have OEM axles. I’m wanting to purchase some OEM axles and go the rebuild route in the future. However not wanting to fork out $320 a piece. Would anybody advise against buying these? https://www.ebay.com/itm/2760444500...486&ssuid=&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I've used the NAPA "high performance" without issue (significant off road and on-road driving). The boots on one of the CV axles ripped, so I replaced those with a different brand, but the axles themselves are still going strong.

Toyota makes a reman CV axle.
    Part #43430-04070-84

If just googled that part # and it seems like the dealership below made a mistake on the pricing.
    Do you feel luck?
    https://parts.frontiertoyota.com/oe...-front-axle-2005-2015-tacoma-4wd-434300407084

Something tells me your order will be “cancelled” once they figure out something isn’t “right”.

Any ways, I’d go OEM Reman from Toyota

I have bought 3 used CV axles from eBay, just not from that particular seller. The first was really cheap from LKQ (like $50 cheap), and came from a 2015 Tacoma from NY state, so it was just a rusty as my original axle, and whoever removed it, put a very small hole in the outer boot.

The 2 later axles I bought from salvage yards out west (so no significant rust on them) and they came off of later 3rd gen Tacoma's (a 2021 and 2022) but paid more for them (between $140 and $180 shipped on eBay).

The big issues with any used axle are the seal on the outer part of the axle, the one that corresponds with the seal on the knuckle behind the wheel bearing, they are usually bent or torn (you can buy aftermarket replacements off of eBay as well, that is what I ended up doing) and the flange on the diff side gets bent up (that goes against the seal on the diff) but it can be removed and bent back flat with hammer and vice/dolly/etc.

My own opinion of course, but save yourself some money and drive it with torn boots. If you are not running OEM, don't waste your time trying to find a non OEM CV axle with boots that will last. I both my 08 with slightly torn boots and continued to drive the truck around the US for another 60k miles without an issue. I replaced them with another NAPA set and they started to tear after 10k miles, which was roughly within one year. I have put another 50k miles on this set and they are still going strong. I will only replace them if I start hearing noises or if I have nothing better to do. I don't want to risk replacing them with another set just to rip shortly after or to have a leak from one of the seals on the transfer case. My truck is at stock ride height and I drive it a ton.

Maybe if I was going off roading and submerging my axles all the time I might think differently.

I've taken apart a Napa CV and an OEM CV and they are not the same. They look the same from the outside but the parts are not interchangeable.

The NAPA HD with premium boots aren’t too bad.
If you were local to Tennessee, I have one sitting here in a box I’d make you a deal on.

CVJ out of Denver.... have had 3 sets in 3 different vehicles and no issues.

There will be a core charge and they only accept genuine toyota so do not waste money by trying to send them aftermarket cores....

At the dealership I worked at back in the '90's, we used CVJ axles and they were wonderful to work with. They stood behind their product with no hassles.
