Depends on the specs of the used one. Mileage, condition, etc.

Generally CPO low mileage are close to new price. Close enough that it often makes sense to go new.

$10,000 dollars “can be” a lot of money.
Like others have said, condition and features will be the deciding factor.
I’d pocket the $10k and go used if it low mileage and good condition.

I mean 36k for a 19 with 45k miles vs a new one for 43k ish. Is that even a debate? I’ll take the new one all day. Used would need to be cheaper.

100% spot on. When I was looking for a Tacoma 6 months ago I could get a 3-4 year old truck with about 40k miles for $42k. A similarity specced brand new ‘23 was around $43k-44k out the door. Buying new was a no brainer. So glad I did.

If I could have found a comparable used Tacoma for 10k less than a new one, I would have done that last year when I bought mine.

    You do you though.

Exactly. When I bought mine the salesman straight up told me to buy the new one. I think the used one they had was more than new.

No,,, not sure why folks are paying so much for used, but I get that is what the market is bearing.
Add to that, I am even less likely to buy a used vehicle like a Jeep Wrangler, Tacoma, etc that tinkerers buy to modify and/or push it's limits.

Depends on your taxes, only $2,000 to account for taxes and fees may be difficult to be at $45,000 OTD.

thats why he said out the door, it means "i'm paying cash and have 45k or preapproved financing for 45k" which means you discount this truck, knock off the stupid dealer fee or whatever you have to do to get to 45k

Also you taxless state car buying people don't need to chime in, we hate you enough already.

If you pay $10k more for a new truck, every time you get to a destination off road you'll be able to console yourself with the fact you paid $10k extra to end up in the same spot. :)

$10k is a lot better difference than we have been seeing lately. That's is actually enough to make it a decision, previously it was only a few grand and it didn't make sense to buy used.

    Tough call op.

Don't forget to consider interest rates as well. I don't know the market right now but if you can do low interest on the new but the used has high interest that may change the math.

If getting a loan there is usually quite a bit higher interest rates on used vehicles than new.

Every time I look at a 5 year old used vehicle I always think, "If I'd bought that truck new 5 years ago it would be paid off by now and if I buy it used it will be 10 years old before I pay it off and the monthly payments will be close to the same."

I was in a similar situation when I bought mine....new '23 TRD OR for 45-46K OTD or a used '21 TRD OR for 37K OTD with 14k miles. Went used as it was all stock and trusted the carfax. New is nice, but sometimes you gotta pay for it.

75% of people think OTD means before tax I've seen, especially common on Reddit. Bunch of morons, sorry.

I found myself in the exact same situation (looking at same models, same used mileage/price range) not too long ago. I went used and haven’t regretted it.

People here are comparing 36k used vs 43k new as if it’s no big deal. 7k with todays interest rates is an extra $200 or so in payments. As one other poster stated, you’re going to get to the same place at the end of the day, only you paid extra to get there.

As far as the truck being “old” when it’s finally paid off, in the grand scheme of these vehicles (20 years), an difference of 2-3 years of age isn’t going to make that big of a difference.

    I say go used.
