Hi all, I am looking into this toyota tacoma 2000 prerunner 4cyl rwd. It has 186000 miles on it.
Buyer says it has a new battery, has just been tuned up and tires are fairly new. Also it is the second owner with some service records. I am concerned that with the high mileage, I may need to replace some big items like the timing chain, transmission, water pump brakes etc...Do any of you have a truck similar to this or have suggestions for things to check when I go test drive it?

Also what do you think is a good price to offer? $$$

Depends on the maintenance performed and quality of care they took of the vehicle. Auto or 5 speed? I don't think the timing chain would have to be replaced any time soon.

Paint looks to be oxidizing in large swaths all over the hood and cabin. For me, a paint job on an old vehicle would be the last thing i'd want to drop lots of money on. That would be a deal breaker unless it was really cheap. Personally, I'd keep looking unless you want to negotiate and don't care about paint (or re-paint). A general point about 1st gen Toyota Tacomas, 300K+ on the clock is not uncommon if maintenance is regular.
