I am hoping this is the right forum to post this...

I am looking at a couple of nice 2003 Tacomas.
One has 200k miles for $11,000 and the other has 70k miles for $20,000

Both are in great shape with no differences other than the mileage

All things being equal I am looking for opinions on high mile Tacomas.

I am told that the 3.4 can get up to 500k miles......is this true or rare ?

True with proper maintenance. Check for frame rust. Vehicle history goes a long way also. Post some pics, lots of people on here to help

2003 over 200k I'd suspect unless it's truly impeccable with great service record etc is overpriced should be under 9,000 my opinion lacking any other info. Make sure it already had a frame replacement probably outside the recall/frame program dates.

The one at 70k at first glance sounds like a good price for the mileage but again need info on maintenance condition etc. It could be in worse shape and have less life left than the one at 200k if it was beat to hell and not maintained.

Are they 4x4? Have elocker? Also location is a factor in price. If you are in Cali the price for the the 200k is not far off.

+1 on the frame. Crawl underneath and check out the entire frame. Frames will rust inside to out so make sure you inspect thoroughly.

I would check with my insurance company before buying the 20k one... my insurance company is denying any comprehensive coverage on vehicles over a certain age. I have had a few trucks stolen and it is always a battle over valuing them.

Dang dude didn't realize prices in Cali are that brutal. I got an 06 AC at like 185000 basically stock and it's about 9k for something similar in my area

$20k for a 25 (edit: 15, lol) year old truck? Sorry, but F that. I don't care how good a condition it's in.

I paid not much more than that for my 2004 when it was *1* year old with <20k miles.

That's high even for Cali prices. 10:1 the dude's wife told him to sell the truck so he puts it up for a redonk price and tells the wife no one is buying...

I paid $12,750 for a 2003 Tacoma with 64 miles on the speedometer... but that was 15 years ago.

Like with a hammer. When I bought my Taco, I asked at the selling dealer for a hammer, and a large box or piece of carboard. I spent almost 1 hour hammering away, making sure the frame was solid, and it was. Oh yes, I brought my own ear plugs!

I paid 16K for an '02 in 2012. It only had 25000 miles on it, had always been garaged and had an impeccable service record. 165000 miles later it still shines and runs like it did the day I bought it. That being said the low mileage one is way overpriced IMO. The high mileage one could be worth it if it's in great shape and has been well maintained. I'd try to get them down to <$9K for it though.

Agree with most everyone else. $20k for that one is nuts. In 2012 I bought a 06 Trd OR for $17k with 80k miles. I sold it 2 years later with 110k miles for $16,500. I’d come closer to seriously looking at the other truck. Those miles are nothing if it’s been maintained.

People, you have to realize that these 1st gens are sexy-ass, reliable trucks! People pay these prices!
Go to bring a trailer DOT com and search Tacoma.
