Is this the same stuff people use to seal the front part of the bed corners after they put a camper top on?

yeah its a construction sealant for roofs, windows, etc.
my thought is butyl tape is butyl tape. I doubt morimoto took the time to develop a whole new "automotive" grade of butyl

Just a name, I bought a no name brand from a local store and haven’t had any issues.

So an update about 2 months later. Used the home Depot Butyl and during application it was soft enough at room temperature for everything to fit together without the oven at all. Just used some small clamps to slowly ease the clear shell in place and screwed it together. After that I took some very thin beads and made a full edge seal with my fingers. We have had a bit of heavy rain and such with no condensation. So far so good, will have to see how it deals with 110 during the summers here.
