hey guys. My rig is in the shop getting some upgrades and one is bushwhacker flares. I’ve seen most guys talk about trimming a couple inches off, and can see what they mean when I look at pictures. The shop that has my truck said if I want to trim the flares, I need to drill holes in my stock fender to mount them. Is that the case? I’ve attached two pics of trimmed fenders and was wondering how they accomplished this? I highlited in red the area I can see they trimmed on the last pic. Please help!!

Once you trim the bushwacker flares, you will loose the mounting points that are up inside the lip. So your only option for mounting would be to drill holes into the fender and put bolts though. I have a write up of what hardware to use and you will need spacers behind the bolts.

A bunch of guys have done it on second gens. On a second gen, I didn't need to drill any holes. I just used the holes that happened to line up, and then put in the Bushwacker cosmetic screws in the ones that didn't line up. Other than that, I did exactly what @mesojdm did (super sweet build by the way). The only issue was the two types of screws don't totally match, but they are close. I'm happy with the result. Sadly I don't have any close-up shots.

That would be awesome! Is it in the build thread or can you shoot that over in a dm?

    Here is some more info

    Parts from mcmaster
    [IMG]
Remove all the fake bolts, mount them up from the bottom like you have and mark the holes. Remove flare and drill.

You will need to space the flares off so they make proper contact when you tighten them up(hence the nylon spacers) listed in my above parts
    [IMG]

Bolted on(you might be able to get away with a slightly shorter bolt.

And on! I actually had no choice but to mount them this was because as you can see I chopped half the bushwacker flare off(which is where it originally mounted)

Got the truck back. Looks good but didn’t trim as much as the flares as I hoped. Any in north OC up for trimming fenders?
