First Tacoma so bear with me. 21 SR 4x4 4300 miles. So for the last 500 miles or so I feel like the comfort of ride has dropped drastically. I feel every bump, crack, pothole etc.. Half of these I can’t see I can just feel in the ride quality. I did buy trd tires and rims off someone who had about 50 miles on them. I put those on around 200 miles. 2000 plus miles later I start feeling this vibration/bounce/bumpy. Took to tire shop=checked out. 1st Toyota dealer said I was crazy. So I decided to put the stock tires and rims in for shits and giggles and exact same ride. Second dealer said they could clearly feel the issue but blamed a little bit of mud under the truck. Well these tires have never seen mud as they were the stock. Can anyone please point me in a better direction. Or has anyone dealt with this themself on a SR or SR5

It's a truck with leaf springs, they will never ride like a car.

For best results drop the tire pressures right down to 29psi.

I dropped them down after reading a bunch online. I’m just confused to why she drove so nice for 3500 miles then started driving like an animal

Replace the coilovers and rear spring with some high quality products. King, FOX, ADS, DOBSON or something else. Good luck with your truck.

I didn’t think it would have to come to that so soon anyway. Dealer themself said they could feel it but blamed a not very muddy undercarriage

This, plus you need to give these suspensions about 5k miles to settle in.

I thought my 2020 ac was the same as your 2018 when i first got it, but now with 9k miles keeping the tire pressure around 30 psi, its a different truck riding much better.

    A good way to test-
Throw 3-4 bags of sand, Quick crete, etc in the back of the bed and test drive. If it seems to you, that it rides better,, then it's just the characteristics of driving an unloaded truck. Engineers have a set amount of height, to counter the sag from loaded weight. Of course even more prominent on 1 tons and up.

Clean the mud from undercarriage yourself or car wash. Put original tires and rims back on. Take back to dealer and let them tell you what is wrong if problem still exists.

I notice weight in the bed right away even 250 pounds . I myself like the the ride of a truck even empty . It's a truck thing .

Exactly what I did with my TRD sport. Got a set of fox 2.0 performance coilover shocks and it has made a huge difference.

I understand new after market suspension will ride a lot better but it doesn’t make sense I would have to do that when the truck is 3 months old and drove smooth 500 miles ago. Spending money you don’t have on new suspension is just fixing the dealer issue...correct??

It does more than fix a dealer issue, it makes your truck ride smoothly, increasing the value, and will make you happy. Good luck with your truck.

The shocks on the SR/SR5 ride like crap. There’s nothing wrong with them though. I just went from an SR5 to an OR. Like others have said, night and day difference. Look on craigslist for a set of new takeoff TRDOR Bilstein shocks and change them out. New ones would be less than $200. Or 5100s. Huge difference.

I think its worth going aftermarket. I payed $1600 for the suspension + installation and it made a night and day difference. It also gave me an extra 1.5 inches of ground clearance in the front and made the ride quality smoother. Aftermarket suspension will void the warranty for the suspension though.image0 (4).jpg
