Anyone ever successfully swap bumpers from a 2001-04 to a 2000 Tacoma? I found this photo on another post where it was obviously accomplished but the person that owns this vehicle bought it that way so does not have any knowledge of the process. Any input on the process would be appreciated. Thanks...

I haven't tried it myself, but from what I've read, the bumpers are all at least mostly interchangeable. You might need to do a bit of drilling or bracket fab. The body lines are, however, different, and the '03 bumper will stick out farther than the 00. It might look funny from the side.

@JKO1998 or @Madjik_Man might be able to give more definitive answers--they've both been blessed (or cursed) with multiple 1st gens of different face lifts.

It would be worth it to have a real friggen bumper.

Not sure what "real bumper" means to you, but... a '95-97 bumper might match the body lines better. Or a '96-98 4Runner bumper (but that'll probably need more fab work).

They will all bolt up. But as others pointed out the lines where top of the bumper meets the grille will vary.

And the 00’ bumper is kind of a fat lip, but as far as I know it’ll bolt up

The newer bumper cover will fit but not the 01-04 crash bar. The 98-00 doesn't have a crash bar, I had to do some fab work (no welding though) on the frame horns to make it fit. You could run without one but I wanted a solid place to mount lights on the bumper. It sticks out a bit more than the 98-00 bumper but I still like it better.

I like it. I don’t like mine being primarily plastic with some rusty chrome corner peices. That one appears to be nice and dolid, better place to stand and mount stuff. What year bumper and apron is that again? I will make it work. Thanks

it will work but it will look kinda off. I mean, 95-00 had a flat front end while 01-04 had a bulging front end, so it will not sit flush with the grille, lights and fenders, leaving a lip in front of the truck. See pictures in post#11

Right, those parts will fit without much issue. If you want it to be stronger though, you will want to grab a bumper reinforcement too, also known as a crash bar. That will provide something solid under the plastic bumper cover.

Isn’t the second piece from the top the “crash bar”? The long black primed piece? Thanks

Nope that's just a valance, it is just cosmetic. The reinforcement is at the bottom of this photo I found. It mounts to the frame horns and sits behind the bumper cover.
