No idea if it’s available, it id go with forged connecting rods and pistons if I was building from the block up. Throw in a set of cams, add some boost from a turbo or supercharger, and call it a day with a custom dyno tune.

If it really was like you said (they put too much oil in it) I'd go after them. Especially since they are trying to bone you for 15k on a new engine etc.

There's no way to "build the engine better" per se what you see is what you get.

Dealership has done no diagnostic testing, they didn’t tear into the motor per my request.
They simply drained the oil and confirmed that it was at minimum a quart over….. with a lot of metal shavings. Truck was serviced by them at 157,000 miles, they gave me a clear bill of health and said it should go for another 100,000……. motor blew at 161,700
Here is the rundown of what exactly happened.

Well, what I got is a 3.5 paperweight lol.
I had my truck serviced at the dealership at 157000 per the Toyota maintenance schedule request, the dealership here in Glenwood has done 90% of my trucks maintenance with the other 10% being oil changes done elsewhere when they couldn’t squeeze me in. Had a OTT tune put on the truck about 3 weeks prior to the Service being done. After the service i drove the truck around locally for approximately a month, all short trips not more than 50-80 miles total. Had to take a trip to Artesia New Mexico…. 1200 miles round trip. In the 900th mile of my trip at approximately 161700 miles on the trucks odometer I pulled out to make a pass on the 2 lane highway I was on, slightly up hill, wide banking Right hand corner, hit the gas and passed the 2 trucks I needed to pass. I was in sport mode 6th gear & approx. 75-80mph, the truck had down shifted and was at about 3500-4000rmps. As I signaled back into the lane and let off the gas there was an instant loss of power followed by extremely loud knocking from the engine bay & the dashboard lit up with low oil pressure warning & check engine lights. Got my truck towed back to the dealership in Glenwood Springs
And find out that it is minimum 1 quart overfull on oil, no coolant and nothing in the oil other than than extra oil & subsequent metal shavings from the engine shitting the bed.
Toyota maintenance department confirmed that it had too much oil in it but said that “wouldn’t matter with this motor and wouldn’t make the truck fail as it did” Subsequentlywashing their hands of the problem and sticking me with a 13000$ replacement that has the potential (in my opinion) to do the same exact thing.

Does your oil smell like fuel at all or anything? i've seen high pressure fuel pumps croak and the excess fuel get pressure fed into the crankcase and dilute the oil along with "overfilling" it

I'd keep it stock with maybe a supercharger.

No, not significant, but always carbon, basically pre-DI days carbon. And I'd like to see how it looks after 100k of catch cans.

Downside is leaks, you're adding another vulnerability to the system, but as long as the owner takes care of it, there's no worry.

If they said it was overfilled but "that's not what broke it, now bend over for the cost of a new engine" I'd talk to a lawyer. Also call Toyota corporate. This is going to cost literally 2/3rds what your truck is worth and overfilling an engine with oil will absolutely blow it up. Seen it several times in several different vehicles.

They know damn well what can happen with the oil overfilled. The crankshaft beats some of it to a froth, the oil pump takes a nice gulp of it, and bye bye bearings.

Dealer overfilled, and they want you to pay for the repair? That's some bs right there. No way improve reliability, and why would you went 157k with no issues till the dealer organized its issue. If you want more power, the only way to improve past the tune you already had would be a maggy sc, but that would be negative for reliability.

No, not in the slightest. Smells normal and has the same viscosity as regular oil. It doesn’t feel diluted & doesn’t smell funny but I suppose only true way to tell is get it tested.

Problem being is that the dealership already drained all the oil out of it to confirm that it was overfilled, Then has the audacity to say “oh yeah we overfilled it but that’s not going to blow up your motor, it’s your problem now….. but we’d be more than happy to install a new engine in it for you”

Guess this is another cautionary tail about doing your own oil changes. Another guy on here had the dealer cut the o-ring on the filter when they installed it. You should fight like hell, this is on them.

not sure what came of it or if it was completed, but @skyking3 had a build project for his motor that redid the valvetrain in titanium. iirc it was something like a 10 or 15% increase in performance and responsiveness. maybe he'll have something to say about it.

My guess, as long as we're guessing, is that there is a quart of piston skirt in the oil pan.

they drain the oil and measured how much oil they removed, there was a quart extra.
