Can anyone recommend a bug/tick repellent that is Deet free? I've read and seen some pics of what that can do to plastic, etc. I'm looking for something I can through in my pack, or keep in my truck. TIA

This works as well as anything I've ever used and is safe. I close my eyes and spray my head with it. It just works.

Entomologist here. The best non-DEET product is picaridin. It was developed from a plant extract and is odorless and non-greasy. Tests show it is as effective as DEET.

You're welcome. Most of them are 20% picaridin and it is the chemical that matters, not the brand.

Recommend treating your clothing with permethrin. That works wonders when it comes to ticks. Spray your clothing a day or two before you head into the woods and let it dry. It should remain in place through several (5-6?) trips in the washing machine.
