So I moved to where the near by FWY gets its good share of truck’s diving by. And had a couple of window pitting happen within a few months.
I’m reading that bug deflectors might help with this.
Can you guys please recommend one that won’t ruin the hood in any way with the installation and look good at the same time. Not crazy about them. But I don’t want want to have to replace the windshield at this pace.
    Pics would be great.

The truck is a 2021 TRD OR MGM color.

    Thanks

I have the AVS Bugflector. Protects the hood well, but I'm not sure if I would count on it to protect the windshield since I still get a lot of bugs.
Personally, I like the way they look.
Attach easily, but I have always used 3M paint protection film under the areas that touch the hood; one square under each thread insert area, and one strip of the 1/2" door edge guard along the hood edge. That way there's no chance of it rubbing the paint off.

I have the AVS one also. I had an AVS one one my Liberty too and they actually stand by the warranty for it. I had to have the jeeps replaced due to car wash damage and they sent a new one. They cover almost everything but collision damage.

The AVS is removable for carwashes and winter weather? I can't see leaving that on during the winter.

:anonymous:Do any of these actually ‘look good’?

Sorry - don’t mean to ‘bash’ on these - but although I do like the concept of the things, I always notice that windshields on so equipped vehicles are still consistently covered in bugs…

The Taco windshields have no hope to avoid bug splats since the windshield is so ‘vertical’…

And any benefit seems to be offset by the horrid aesthetics. Again - don’t mean to offend, but few accouterments beat these contraptions in terms of giving the Pep-boys’ stick-on accessory look to any vehicle.

These just don’t look good - or seem to work.
    :sorry:

I can let myself out, if so desired…

Edge of your hood is protected. But that painted grill surround is out there naked for chips. There worthless in my eyes.

Had Avs the first 15k. Was always 50/50 on looks. It really does change the lines in the hood on the truck. In my opinion it looks best with the matching matte black Off Road fenders and AVS rain guards. Even better with a matching Meso 3rd brake light.

First one came off in the auto wash I used to go through before I had my rack. Second one stayed on but I was using hand wash and my windshield still ended up shot to shit with chips after driving across Kansas and Ohio. Still covered in bugs further down I70. Take that for what it's worth.

Wanted to like it but ended up removing it. Still rock the rain guards though. Good products overall.

Doesn't seem like it's going to do what I want it to. Which is keep the bugs down on an upcoming road trip from New England to Central Texas. I'm a bit less concerned about rock chips and the like than the PITA of cleaning the windshield several times a day.

I think that's a good call. Save yourself some Goo Gone, buff out time, and the hefty price tag. Rain X is a little helpful on those long trips but is gone after two pit stop squeegee cleans and needs to be reapplied.

Rain X makes what they call bug remover windshield washer fluid. Is that what you mean or is there something else?

I actually didn't know about the wiper fluid. I meant the 6 dollar spray bottle but your's is probably much more efficient. Same thing just different application methods.

My recommendation don't waste your money. They look gawd awful and they don't do jack shit beyond maybe keeping a few bugs off your windshield.

Of course I topped off my fluid tank about two weeks ago. I'll have to wash my windows every day until the tank is dry. Or, I suppose I could just take out the tank and pour the old stuff into my wife's Highlander. Less dramatic.

I’ve got the AVS matte one. although it’s more of a good protector than bug deflector

Personally, it's just a name. Never works. So, I think it's useless and ugly.

I just tried installing an AVS one and it touches the paint on the driver’s side surround, as well as pushes down in the headlights.

It caused a little chip in the paint where it touches the surround on the drivers side. So either I messed up the installation, the deflector is warped, or it’s total crap. Took it off fast after seeing this.
