I'd really appreciate some help with this laptop. This older Toshiba laptop originally had Win 8.1 but now has Win 10. I have frequent buffering issues when streaming YouTube or other video providers. I dint think it's my wifi or internet provider because my newer work computer (Dell Precision 5510) streams it like a champ.

Is there any hope for this older Toshiba laptop? I'm including a pic of the current specs. Any help is appreciated.

Does it have a built in ethernet port? If so try connecting it directly to the router to see if it still stops to buffer. Other questions? Does it have a solid state hard drive? When was the last time the operating system was installed from scratch to get rid of unneeded background junk? Does it buffer all the time or when someone is using the microwave? The specs weren't that great back in 2012 when windows 8 came out, but for just watching youtubes and web surfing it should be ok if you keep the number of open tabs down.

Dual core with 8 gb of ram doesnt hold up too well anymore.

A dying hard drive might also cause stuttering as well as it draws on resources.

I have an old laptop I use for work and it has an old i5 4 core and 8gb of ram, I put a SSD in it to give it bonus time, but its basically obsolete as it stands.

Isn't that the sort of processor a netbook used to use?

Task manager would easily show you what is working hardest and I'd say it's your CPU.

My old ThinkPad can still run youtube, gaming, and more on Windows 10 with only 8gb of ram

It does have a built in ethernet port.... I'll do some experimenting with that. The HD has been upgraded to a SSD. We don't have a microwave so that won't be a factor. There are times that it buffers so bad that its borderline unusable. I cleared the cookies and cache yesterday and it seems to be doing better. I'll admit that I'm bad about keeping 5 to 8 windows open at the same time too.

I'm open to purchasing a "newer" laptop. I love the screen and the overall size of my Dell Precision 5510. I also prefer to not have a keypad on the right which will make the keyboard centered on the screen. I may start another thread for advise on purchasing a used laptop.

Here's a pic off task mgr while watching a YT video. CPU usage went up to 68% when hitting play on vid and then it seems to stabilize.

If budget is the priority, I just got a new HP laptop that just went on sale at Costco for $379. I mainly got it at costco because of their return policy, the price and reviews. I'm not claiming it's the best thing out there, but it's good for the basics. It has windows 11.

Exactly as I stated - Windows + Netbook cpu + Explorer and Youtube is too much to ask for

Thanks for the idea. I'm going to test the waters on leaving more windows closed when using YT.... its helping so far.

Makes sense now. I appreciate your(and everyone else's) help.
