BSM light never comes on and doesn't work when turned on

I'm test driving a 2016 tacoma sport today and the blind spot monitoring system is not working... I had this on my last tacoma and it worked fine and I know what to expect.

I push the button to turn it on and the light doesn't even turn on... and of course the system doesn't show the warnings when a vehicle is in the blind spot.

Is this a fuse or is this potentially both sensors are bad?

 

Possibly either one. But my bet is on bad sensors. If not kept clean, or area that salt is used on roads. They are shot.

 

Since the system doesn't have a dedicated fuse and you have not mentioned any other signs/failures of other systems, I'd say sensors. The sensors themselves are the ones that send the juice to the indicators.

 

When you first turn the key to the "On" position do the indicators light up like all the cluster lights do?

I'd assume if the sensors themselves were bad there would be a message on the center cluster display as well.

Sounds to me like the system has no power, and since the system isn't being powered then that message won't pop up because computer isn't expecting the system to be on and functioning. But that all depends on your answer to the other questions.

 

The indicators are inside the mirrors. I'm not aware there is any Blind Spot Monitor System anywhere on the dash at anytime.

 

That's what I'm talking about. I have the same system on my 19OR. Do the indicators turn on and do what some call a "bulb check" when the truck is first turned on... Similar to what the cluster does...but not in the cluster, the lights in the mirrors.

 

it's probably an expensive repair, so get them to fix or deduct.

 

Thanks for the info... I bought the truck and it has 191k on it (2016)... it looks like it came from Michigan, so my guess is salt killed them.
